Lateral move + 10K bump to MBB or promotion + 30K bump to a niche firm? Similar type of work.

Guys, quit deifying MBB. It’s not for everyone, and not every consultant there is more talented than a ‘tier 2’ consultant. If you have better opportunities, pay, work/life or whatever matters to you, go elsewhere.

like

I would think better opportunities form MBB. That would be my pick - no matter the comp. even just to experience it for a couple years

like

Your trajectory at MBB if you are good and successful will be way faster. Your future comp at MBB if you are successful will be way higher. The impact you can have at MBB on your clients if you want it will be way greater.

Agree with mck1 - you’ll prob make more in a few hours with mbb

like

What lateral move would there be to MBB unless you are already at MBB?

^yes, also the dollars MBB will pay you are worth more than the dollars from the niche firm. /s The future is what you make it. You can be just as successful and satisfied at another company if the work opportunities are to your liking.

OP, are you big 4/acn? I thought the lateral to MBB at manager was pretty much impossible to allow time to adjust to each firm’s method

Just go to MBB kiddo

“Lateral” in terms of rank. Good thoughts 🐬

Current comp is near the top of the band for a role I was offered. If I jumped I would be taking a ~7% increase while I was hoping for something closer to 20%. Is it possible to counter and push past the band? I was offered a raise during my interview process so the original jump of 15% was decreased to 7% based on my new salary.

I work for a small firm (about 20 attorneys) and make 90k. I’m coming up for a raise discussion in a couple of months but don’t know how to go about it/what is reasonable to ask for. I bill about 35 hrs/week at 400/hr, so I think I deserve a bump, especially considering the posture of the market. Any advice/feedback from similarly situated associates or partners at similarly sized firms?

I’m curious what the opinions are on the process they have seen or used to get promoted. I’ve never had it happen in my career this way but in my mind, your work speaks for itself, you advocate for yourself, ask for a promotion when it’s not been offered. Then you get promoted after you make your case if you do qualify. The way I’ve seen it (& a reason I’m leaving my current company) is where they only promote people when they’ve threatened to leave or received a different offer. Thoughts?

At a boutique firm for just over a year, I know this isn’t the best place for my growth, but a promotion is coming. Am I better of sticking around or try to go to MBB or big 4 at an associate level?

Currently at a no-name boutique strategy consulting firm with 1 YOE. Regretting coming here instead of fully sending it for MBB in UG. How can I break into MBB? I had a 3.7 at a top university

My one year at first out of college job is coming up, despite conditions - should I still ask for a raise and a formal virtual performance review. I have an offer from maxlinear, they are giving me almost 90% raise from my current CTC but the hr has taken almost a month to process the letter and also I have had rude conversations from her side. The technical manner knows about it all. I am not able to decide that whether this kind of incident will affect my work environment or not. Should I join maxlinear or not.

Is the raise I received reasonable? My firm bumped up my chargeable rate almost thirty percent by my raise was only 8.27%? I am a tax associate on my third year at a local firm in HCOL. I received my CPA license this year so I was expecting anywhere between 10% to 15%.
