Lateraling from big law, major market to small/mid-tier market. L&E- focused attorney and background. Better to go to best ranked law firm in area or national employment boutique? Why?

Ok then you have to figure out/balance which firm will give you better experience and what is the partnership track for each. All things being equal, I would lean towards the boutique because with the right support you can really hone your craft and always lateral into a bigger firm once you are a partner with solid experience.

Agreed. And some of the more elite boutiques and middle-market firms can pay very well while also offering more business development opportunities and a realistic partnership path.
