Is it just me thinking that employers see through such bullshit excuses for "quitting on your own". I personally feel like honesty is the best option here, can even be a positive so say you've been humbled a bit/blame office politics.
You could go with an explanation that you're burnt out after the last busy season and have been working 80 hour weeks for the last 4 months. You're lucky enough to be in a monetary position where you could quit before finding another job and just chalk it up to mental health/happiness.
I told the people i interviewed with that i had been laid off. After i told them the reason the partners laid me off (bad market, giving an example of a service that was not selling), they understood and moved on. Don't lie, if they catch you in a lie, big problems can happen in your future. Only took 2 months to find a new job. Some of the others i was laid pff with are still looking.
Yeah I think I'm gonna just be honest. I'll find something since I'm in NYC. Plenty of opportunities. Just need one.
You'll be fine man. May I suggest treating job hunting as a full-time job. Plan on 'working' 8 hours a day updating your resume, checking in on old contacts, looking for vacancies, etc. And don't give in to the very first offer you get (I know that can be financially frustrating) but be reasonable with your timelines. Good luck!
Thank you!
It's a huge red flag for employers that you're not currently employed while searching for a new job. With that said, you just can't come out and say you've been laid off. Employers expect you to at least have the sense to lie about this. I'd go with some excuse of a family medical emergency, that forced you to take time away from the job. If they ask why you didn't just take unpaid leave, you'll mention that the demands of public accounting weren't compatible. Now with that said, you're new position can't be for something with a huge workload or else that explanation doesn't hold any weight.
The issue here is likely the time between employers. It's not like you're going to have a large gap between your prior employer and new search. Therefore explanations of "I needed some time off for..." will be viewed skeptically because you've actually not taken anytime off. This is definitely a tough one to skate around.

A lay-off is different from being fired. Try to make it sound like the former.
I think you answered your own question bud
Well I'm thinking if I say I left for family issues or something like that, the interviewers will think "well, why didn't he just take a leave of absence?"
