Laying it out there for everyone. Doing your job well does not equate to a bigger bonus or promotion. The expectation is that you will do you job well , that's why you were hired.

Thanks for spreading your wisdom 🙄

Yeah, except bonuses are incentives to stay. Doesn't serve any other purpose but showing good talent that they're recognized so they stick around

like

Comp and promotions are, rather, based on politics. Make everyone feel better???

like

Lol OP just shut up. How about working 70-80 hours on a regular basis and not having a life? Is that the expectation as well? I better damn well get compensated for the time that I put in this job or I might as well work at McDonald's

like

Deloitte Toilet & Douche at its best 😪😴

like

Also, scope of job is rarely spelled out at start of assignment and you often find yourself going above and beyond with zero thanks or credit

like

So then how is it determined where you fall in the % range? Politics and your relationship with your PEP? That seems to be the case, great point OP

like

That's exactly what it is. That's not just in consulting either - that's in life.

like

A wise man once told me, "sometimes you have to shovel some sh*t". How you shovel and the attitude you have while doing it, will define how your viewed by leadership.

like

Not meant to look bad, just realistic. You have to perform well, sometimes your are going to have to be on a project you don't want to be on and how you perform on those types of projects will be remembered. If we are realistic with expectations, then we can be realistic with performance evaluation.

like

Except for the fact that doing your job well directly correlates to the obscene revenue you are generating at a 50+% margin, and your bonus is a fraction of that margin which largely goes to corporate overhead, partner pensions, etc. our bonus is effectively us “getting our cut” rather than some reward since we are each revenue generators

like

Your rating depends on exactly how the person feels about you when they are being asked if they would take you on your team or if you’d give the highest compensation. Nothing to do with actual performance.

like

Seriously OP? You're making us look bad with your enlightening comment ...

Well said OP.

People want rewards for meeting expectations and basically doing their job. Your reward is your comp package boyo. Just fucking lol

I’m currently an AE and was offered a promotion to sales manager. I’ve been waiting for this next step but the offer only provides a 5% raise over what I currently make. We had several manger seats open and I know external people we hired received an offer atleast 20-30% more than I did.
I’m currently trying to negotiate but there doesn’t seem like there’s willingness to do so from our hiring team. Should I decline? Should I leave? Should I accept and start looking elsewhere?

I feel a little crazy saying this, but more money at this point doesn’t resonate. I see a ton of exit planning and boomerang threads here, but I’d take a 50% pay cut (or a 50% raise) for an exciting role. That’s totally privilege talking, but I just can’t imagine chasing extra money in PE or lateraling just for the money. No virtue signaling here at all. I actually worry on some level that I’m somehow a moron for not giving a thought to maximizing earnings.

I introduced 2 friends to each other at my birthday party. None I'm super close with but one I'm closer with than the other. They both have recently moved here and don't know anyone so I wanted both of them to meet and be friends!
A couple weeks later they wanted to hangout and the one I'm closer with asked if I wanted to join but I couldn't. I realized they had blocked me from seeing their Instagram stories for 24 hours.
