As layoffs start ramping up. I’m getting pretty worried. Should I start trying to find a more recession proof industry to work in-house at (currently at an agency). Or should I double down on my efforts to look great at my agency so I’m less likely to get fired?

Thanks for sharing this info! This is making me feel a bit worried too...

I'm in-house at a B2B SAAS company, and luckily our portfolio of clients is very diverse, but if the recession affects all industries across the board or hits some of our top tier accounts, who knows how this might go.

I will be updating my portfolio and resume too just in case! Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best, right??

I also work in an agency and this gets me a lil worried too. Most of our big clients are in the transportation industry 🥲

What I am doing and what I recommend you doing is to have your portfolio up to date and be open to new opportunities from recruiters on LinkedIn.

What type of clients does your agency have? Are they recession proof? Get that book together either way

Pretty broad spectrum of work, mostly consumer & retail, but I’ve also worked with some finance and pharma clients here

I’ve been putting off working on my portfolio since I’ve gotten comfortable here but it seems like more than just a good idea now

Thanks!

Depends on your financial situation, but hedge your bets amigo.

Where's tech?

I didn’t make this, more info is available at http://layoffs.fyi . But my thinking is that tech is is usually just a tool so it can fall in any of these industries. Pure tech for techs sake like an AI or robotics focused company is maybe under “All Others”?

I got laid off from my job as an account manager at a SAAS company. I’ve been applying non stop for similar jobs in saas for the past 2 months and I’m not having a lot of success with interviews. Either not getting them or not getting an offer because they go with a candidate with more experience (I have 1 year experience). Any advice for companies to apply to or with getting an offer despite not having as many years experience as others?

"why are you looking for a new role?"

What's the point of this question?

We ask our candidates this and I don't really care what the answer is. It seems like we're asking the candidate to lie to us. The real answer is always unflattering.

"I would like better compensation or better working conditions"

"I was fired from my previous job"

"I don't like my manager"

"I have disagreements with management"

All terrible answers. And any "good" answers come across as fake to me.

I quit my previous job approximately 5-6 months ago due to toxic culture and being pressured to commit fraud… I fear hiring managers see that I’ve been out of work for this time and may assume I was fired or laid off. Additionally I’ve had a couple interviews where company “X” interviewers have commented on this and in an effort to not bad mouth my previous employer I’m stuck with a generic answer like I want to take my career to the next level with Company “X.” Any thoughts/advice?

Hey fellow designers, I recently saw a tweet that the new hourly rate for designers in US is $200-250hr(screenshot). And more people seem to confirm that:

I think the lack of awareness of how much our peer designers make causes huge gap differences in what we’re paid.

I would love to hear other designers opinions on perspective jobs ghosting you. I read a post this morning about going through 3 rounds of interviews and getting a rejection email. Unfortunately I know that feeling and although it sucks at least you have closure.

Recently I went through 4 rounds of interviews and was led to believe by HR that I was still in the running. Fast forward two months later, many emails sent and ignored, I believe I have been ghosted.@meow wolf

Quick question to H1B or greencard holders. Currently I’m getting sponsored by my company. However my supervisor keep asking me to share all my personal documents with him. He is blocking the connection between me and HR, and he told me not to contact HR directly. If HR request any doc, he gets the request and deliver to me. When I need to submit my doc to HR, he brings my doc to HR. Is this normal procedure?? He is so sketchy. He even checks employee’s home address on google road maps..
