You would think, looking at the history of this country, companies would actually hire more black and brown people who've graduated from college and have a desire to be in consulting since to get their they've statically had to jump way more hurdles than their white counterparts. Then again, this assumes no one has a racial bias. Which of course can't be true since racism isn't a problem anymore lol.

You're not having enough fun Cap! We're dealt different hands but playing the same game. I seek to have everyone play by the same rules, and you seek to have the rules bent in your favor. Because those dealt the best hand fair the best under fixed rules, you assume I'm "privileged", i.e, my hand is better. Maybe it is? Maybe not? It's irrelevant because my positions are grounded in just and fair principles, whereas yours merely pretend to be

If the idea of creating an inclusive environment and treating your colleagues like humans instead of dots on a scatterplot immediately makes you want to resign, then you're doing us a favor by leaving. Hope more like-minded folks like you also resign, so our culture can further improve.

Because work is the real world, not a safe space.

like

@C1 I think there's a lot of room between the two options you've presented. A safe space doesn't mean no feelings hurt, but we should all feel empowered to do what we think is right for our client and trust that our team has our back. Or maybe we should just roll over and play dead at our clients' and coworkers' beck and call.

like

To which I just got invited. I am officially resigning

Bye OP. Glad I won't have the chance to work with you 👋👋

like

I think the millennials forget we are actually here to serve clients

like

The language used in the invite alienated OP. The narrow above assume he has different values than they do but what if OP has a point about staying focused on the broader environment? What if you need that perspective for inclusion to be successful? I think OP should leave because his part of hid firm has become ironically and politically aggressive: believe what we believe or get out. Look at the posts, wow.

like

Uh... lol. Ok. I guess I'm a communist then. They called MLK Jr. one as well. FYI - historically the "free market" was directly established in this country through the oppression of others. You sound amazingly ignorant at best. The lack of humanity is a heart issue so I won't be debating that here ✌🏾

like

I've got a problem with safe spaces and I don't trust anyone who doesn't. There is no right anywhere in human history to be shielded from things that might offend you. I'm all for inclusiveness, but I'm also looking for employees with grit. Those who will stare adversity in the face and say "get the fuck out of my way". Safe spaces promote a wuss culture. Toughen up.

like

Appreciate all the perspectives. PS - I am a "she" and extremely senior.

like

The irony is non-white Americans on average have to show more "grit" in the first 20 years of their lives than many white Americans (the same people group who have the most issue with "safe spaces") do in their entire lives. Not only that, but it is the lack of inclusion and downright oppression of non - white , non-straight groups that have empowered the majority to their privileged positions today. It's sad that some are so accustomed to their privilege that the idea of someone simply having a fair shot by way of their humanity being recognized is a *threat*. Wow. Biggest tip: actually engage in authentic dialogue with brown and gay people. Not just one gay person or one brown person (we aren't a monolith), but multiple. Not to teach them, but to be taught. Learn something. This also shows an ironic level of fragility 🤷🏾‍♂️.

like

I think we just have different ideas of what a safe space is then. We aren't looking to not be offended; we're looking to be treated fairly based on our merit. To us, the safe space is the level playing field.

like

If by not be offended you mean, not ask me did I graduate from college, assume I have kids out of wedlock, ask me to take you to get fried chicken in "da hood", or not fight back disgust on your face when I share my point of view, then sure! The adversity many non-white folk see is in people who don't have the courage to directly engage their biases and as a result, create an uneven playing field.

like

Lmao @ being alienated by "commitment to inclusion" I think it's safe to assume OP has different values if the thought of not alienating others makes him want to pack up his toys and go home.

like

Maybe hostile spaces, alienation of others, and injustice is what our clients want 🙄

like

I would hope any company would be decent enough to say "if you are offended by the idea of equality, you shouldn't work here", but hey lol.

like

"Equality" is a euphemism for communism, so I hope any good capitalist is offended by it. Everybody is valued what they're worth in the free market. This PC BS is a political power play to extort additional compensation based solely on minority political power rather than actual value

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance. I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members. Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?
