As a woman of colour: different dimensions of diversity should not be pitted against each other, pursuing dimension of diversity does not detract from another. I believe it would be beneficial to see and unlearn biases and non-inclusive behaviour from multiple angles It invalidated the experiences of minorities and said “your issues and experiences are not important” It made me feel that while I work with the same colleagues delivering the same impact, the leadership is not/ is less invested in helping me overcome systemic biases I face because they feel it is not important

You would expect that after 2020 they would have learned something, but I am not surprised. White women have always benefited by affirmative action more than any other group.

I think all corporate diversity initiatves are BS unless it involves paying efficiency wages; literally the one thing that will always retain existing diversity and attract new diversity. They want the college textbook cover but they don't want to pay for it - it's absurd.

Short version - the clowns running this circus all seem to think "competitive" means "efficiency" when in fact they're polar opposites. Firms that are serious about diversity will pay people "more than they are worth" because they understand that anyone falling under the diversity bucket starts out disadvantaged in some way (student loans, generational debt, family financial obligations, pink tax, etc) - efficiency wages take a decent number of those disadvantages away and result in big productivity gains

There are studies that show if a company focuses on gender diversity it will also succeed as diversify across the board. Do you think that they are approaching it with this in mind? Is this a first step towards broader diversity goals? Gender diversity needs to be part of a bigger plan. It can definitely be the first step in a plan but it’s not the last and only step.

I believe that focusing on both gender diversity and underrepresented groups are equally important. By focusing on gender diversity only, your firm is ignoring the additional hurdles that woman of color face. That’s problematic. Most firms were focused on the gender diversity piece long before 2020 so I find it interesting your firm is saying this in 2022.

Are they speaking from the lens of hiring practices only? From the outside looking in, is your company pretty racially diverse? What about gender diverse? Is one or the other worse? I am not a person of color but believe unconscious bias is very helpful. I also think we need to be less race focused. There is much more to diversity than just race and gender, and it’s not talked about enough.

Hm are they saying (and us it been proven) that they haven’t experienced any disproportionate hiring when it comes to race? Or that’s just not higher up on their priority list when it comes to hiring more women? Whichever form of diversity they want to focus on first - I hope they’re doing it esp at the leadership level (ideally management and above), and not just hiring a ton more at the lowest levels bc that’s not solving the issue and is counterproductive. But it sounds like the leadership team could use some training in this area (consultants need consultants too lol)

Some companies are not taking diversity beyond cosmetics and do not seem to be committed to equity and inclusion. Exhibit A: The credentials of some of the recently hired DEI “executives”. Exhibit B: Average tenure of said executives tend to be about 12 months. And parting tends not to be amicable.

Hi, we just launched Diversity and inclusion committee at our work place and one of our many initiatives is to share some reminders /notifications about safety and inclusion in common employee platforms/portals e.g There’s no place or time when discrimination is acceptable. Please feel free to report to HR if you com across any discriminatory behavior. Anyone has any more similar ideas what other topics we can add?

How are folks handling the address on your business cards? I recently took my first officially remote position. I'm in the same region as one of the company offices, but not especially close and not officially associated with it. Are folks just not putting an address on their cards? Nearest office address? Company HQ address?
