It’s just all in the title. You’re over thinking it. In reality the recruiters at big tech firms understand nuanced levels of roles very well.
Gotcha. I’m being promoted for my work in scoping and executing new analytics projects, not my technical skills (which I’m working on growing), I just didn’t think recruiters ever read my resume past the titles
to an actual data scientist role at a tech company down the line? I feel like expectations would be extremely mismatched and I’d get screened out by applying to levels “below” a senior DS level.
If I had to pick, right now I barely fit Associate Data Scientist roles at the moment.
And there’s not really an opp to grow into a Senior DS considering I don’t have a foundation in STEM and don’t spend time doing software engineering or advanced modelling
OP - my impression is that data science too young for standardized titles across the industry (esp. with the confusion between the PhD stats ML data science and the business reporting side of the house) that good recruiters have to read deeper into the resume.
I'd be more worried about failing if you roll to a project that expects strong DS skills at your current firm.
