In Philly for 2k you can get a beautiful 1 bedroom downtown
Surprised at all the Chicago hate... I love it and highly recommend
Pilsen sucks. Would never live in that trash pit. You can find a great studio in a high rise in Rivernorth at $2k. Ppl say they want all the diversity and culture but let’s be honest you really want the doorman and pool on the 36th floor looking out onto the city

NH1 that’s correct. Buckhead is not really walkable

Boston
I love Boston but if you’re shooting for a luxury high rise in back bay or seaport you won’t be saving much $$$ versus Bay Area or NYC
Chicago or bust
I live in Chicago. Bust
I had similar criteria when I decided to move to Chicago. Currently living in a high-floor studio with central heat/AC in downtown for $1600.
I’d estimate my commutes are done by foot/bike 70%, bus/train 20%, Uber 10%.

Second Philly, think it’s a very underrated city. Also, you can definitely get a studio or maybe even a small one bedroom in NYC for that price.
As much as I love NYC having lived my whole life here, $2k doesn’t go far in any neighborhood, much less a decent one. I’d second Philly or DC.
Consider Philadelphia or Washington DC. I love them both. They have plenty of studios, even some one bedrooms, at that price. And both are very walkable!
I moved from DuPont to SW Waterfront recently — absolutely love it. Two blocks from the wharf, 15 min walk from the Mall, metro stop on my street + L’Enfant one stop away. Buildings are new and area isn’t congested with tourists 👌🏼
No to Chicago. Literally a terrible city.

To each their own. I grew up in a small town, so maybe that’s the difference. Never felt safe when I live there. If you’re born and raised in a big city maybe it’s different.
Birmingham, Al. A consultant salary would go much further here and you could get, a nice 1 bedroom for under $2k.
Second those saying philly — can get a really nice studio or even 1 bed for $2k or less. SUPER walkable. Has a great restaurant scene and plenty to do, and very diverse.

Agree with all those saying Philly! It’s highly underrated. Tons to do, absolutely does not require a car, and very affordable compared to other major cities.

You’ll need to move somewhere that has good public transit unless you don’t mind ubering everywhere. Austin would still require a car. I tried doing Texas cities with no car and living somewhere I could walk and it was no dice. I’ve also lived in Nashville and some of my classmates didn’t have cars but they always needed rides.
I think Chicago is your best bet if you don’t mind winter that lasts 80% of the year. Atlanta might work but it’s a bit spread out and traffic is horrendous.
I also know a good number of people who lived in LA sans a car.
Uptown Charlotte. The city is booming and expanding its light rail! I know plenty of folks that either walk to work or take the light rail.
I agree. I know many people who live in uptown and don’t drive!
Go to Colombia or Mexico you’ll get a mansion with your own pool, I just did it, no regrets.

Have you confirmed your salary will not be adjusted based on your location?
