Leaving Deloitte for another Big 4 in a different service line on the West Coast (currently on the East Coast). I would like to serve out my two weeks when I give notice. How do I phrase to partner?

They will probably ask you where you are going and you shouldn’t lie. Definitely tell them that it is due to your dad being sick ect. They will understand and can’t hold that against you. Still, you will probably have to leave same day. It’s just firm policy

like

I would def mention you are going to a competitor. They may perp walk you same day, and pay you for next two weeks.

like

Offer to stay and help transition, but be prepared that you get asked to leave right away. Highly doubt you are that valuable as a staff (no offense we are all replaceable). Be prepared that they ask you why didn’t you request for a transfer to another office and service line

like

I don’t think the team will ask you out immediately if you are in a good relationship with them and they need you to work on something. The urgent thing about going to competitor is actually from HR coz technically this creates a risk (?) but I don’t think 2 weeks would be a much problem esp you’re moving for both your need and interest (my guess otherwise it’s not hard to switch internally for this personal reason). I will frame it like this is a best option for yourself. Partners don’t care that much honestly.

like

Unfortunately, the Deloitte office does not have space. I spoke to the managing partner before I got the offer with the other Big 4.

like

If you already spoke to the partner then there’s really nothing to worry about. You are leaving for personal reasons only because they could not transfer you internally. Transition or not you’re not going to be leaving on bad terms

like

Anything along the lines of your post is fine. Just say you'd like to continue contributing. But theres almost no chance you won't see the door the day of.

Bummer. Should I just not mention I am going to another Big 4? My dad is sick and I am moving to my hometown.

I actually want to work out the two weeks. I have a great relationship with my team and want to transition my projects. Also, I just submitted a bunch of fitness subsidy items that I want paid out. The internal system says they will be paid on June 29, which is my last day.

I went to EY from PWC and they didn’t show me the door, depends on what you need to transition.

I’m staff, but I am heavily involved in a lot of projects. I think what I am going to do is work until when my last day would have been and offer to transition my projects remotely.

I spoke to the partner in the other service line, not the partner of my group.

Seeing posts about transitioning from PA to Law a lot lately and i’m not gonna lie, I thought I wanted to be a lawyer as a kid but never pursued b/c of confidence issues (knew a few lawyers and where I was at in life at 17, I didn’t think there was a chance to become a lawyer). Now I am in Big 4 and still think about being a lawyer. So i’m now considering law school. I went to a really small undergrad, but graduated cum laude and took a few accounting courses at a big school (continued..)

How am I supposed to get it though? I can’t go to lower ranked firms bc my clients are all “big.” … any suggestions appreciated!

For anyone debating whether to go in house, I recently went in house, and the mental health benefit of not having to worry about billable hours is completely worth the switch. It's great not having to worry about catching up on hours when I'm out for a doctor's appointment, vacation, etc. It's more of a mental health relief than I guessed it would be.

When looking at both evals, I found that Admin changed some things after I got my copy which lowered my overall score. Went to my union rep about it, and now I have a conference with my principal. Did I do the right thing, or should I have just let it be?
