Leaving firm to start my own small shop. Rollover 401k (to my newly minted company's newly minted 401k) or keep existing 401k where it is (Vanguard) and start the new 401k from scratch. Liquidity?

Always roll over unless you know you won't get charged fees where the money is now. Learned this the hard way. Investment vehicles (target funds etc) charge fees if you no longer work for sponsoring company

Rollover

Vanguard charges extra fees because you're no longer employed by the company? That doesn't sound right...their incentive would be told hold on to your money, not force you to roll it over. My personal preference would be leave it and start a new 401k with your new company. Creates a sort of natural diversification (assuming you aren't solely buying the same type of index funds across both).

I'm confused - you mean like there was a "Deloitte 2040" type fund that you invested in through Vanguard? Or was it just institutional-class shares of an existing lifecycle fund offered by Vanguard?

What vertical?

Tech

Was not entity which was managing my money (vanguard in this case), it was the specific fund the money was in (employer sponsored target fund)

Please talk me out of ordering the new ford bronco for 50k. Background: 26 y/o 2020 grad. After taxes, 401K, and HSA I take home ~6100/month. My current car is 13 years old and on its last leg(s). Current debt is 850/month for income based student loan repayments. I have 6 month emergency fund in savings and 20% of net income goes to brokerage account. Growing up lower middle class my only “I’ve made it” purchase is a bad A double S vehicle I actually want. I also get double steak at chipotle.

How are folks thinking about permanent life insurance? 45, making let’s say for example (not my exact numbers): $1M per year, not yet vested in pension. Was thinking need to replace the post tax take home, about $550k NPV’ed at 5% to age 55, so that’s like $3.2M. Maybe pension is worth $2.5M so I think that means I should have $5.7 total you want death to have no financial impact. Also was going to do $1M of that in perm w/ LTC rider. Sound right?

Received a verbal offer from a recruiter congratulating me on clearing the final round. However did not receive a written offer or what the TC package would look like. They have started the right to work checks and the investments / pension plan declaration. Is this normal? Should I send across any documents or wait for the written offer to come through (not even sure if the terms offered would be favourable!!)? Anyone faced a similar situation / have any advice on how to proceed? Thanks!
