You could probably sell coming back as a experienced manager and take a “prove yourself” year to get the SM title after a year
Definitely brush up on more finance and a analytics. Would be good to know how to build out a 3 way financial statement with various inputs and control mechanisms as well. Day to day can vary as it depends on the current business situation where I need to find what is causing certain trends
They will probably ask you to be back as a senior to tell you the truth. Since they’ll use the excuse of technology and other factors that you will need to “get acquainted “ to
Hm❗️, if you have good contacts with higher their is a possibility.
I left B4 as a manager (he completed 2 years), came back after 1+ year as a SM.
I am an M1 in accounting advisory and thinking about leaving the firm and try FP&A. I thought it is pretty difficult to find FP&A manager position with accounting background? Do you have any suggestion in terms of how to get into FP&A?
Nope
No they wont
Was good to see the other side of things and how a company actually runs vs Auditors POV.
It’s all about selling engagements at SM level. You have not proven this through your industry role
@EA1 they will probably try that line.
@kpmg1 I think that’s a highly likely scenario. Thanks
TA1 can you tel me your story to get SM1?
OP what's your story on leaving an FP&A Manager role for audit? Interested in what worked or didn't work
Op - not much of a story. Left on great terms, went to a role (corporate accounting in a mining company) that continued my development. Reached out to my former partner when I wanted to come back, had concrete reasons for coming back and how my experience would make be a better auditor. Was offered SM.
@pwc1. Hours are great compared to PA. Typically 50hrs/wk unless quarter end and then there’s some more for items to do for the BOD. However with that also comes with a lot less flexibility. Upward mobility is unpredictable. Sat in meetings where we downgraded certain required roles. Also sat in meetings where decisions are made for no yearly salary adjustment. Tools and resources are limited
@TA1 thanks for your insights
