Left for the tech world a few weeks ago and wanted to give everyone some honest and transparent feedback since I know a lot of folks who want to move into the tech industry. See comments.

Pro’s
- Better pay for now
- Way better benefits (401k match, medical etc)
- work life balance is a real thing and you definitely have better hours when compared to consulting
- people are nice and the offices are more enjoyable to be in
- dress code is super chill
- depending on role, no travel

Con’s
- flat structure means it's hard to get folks to do stuff
- it's hard to hold people accountable to a deadline
- life is stressful if you're in sales and have revenue targets
- lack in clarity on upward mobility. You don't really know what the next level is and what it takes to get there
- total comp is mainly a function of RSU vesting and your base doesn't really change YoY. So planning things ahead is harder since your comp is tied to company performance.

Exactly right

People bash consulting but it is a place to get accountability and Comp progression.

Industry tends to work for a few, most hang at the Manager and Director level. (Industry)

Well. I don't think you're factoring the sacrifice you need to make to become a partner. I personally didn't think it was worth it and that's why I left.

So I posted a bit ago about getting IV hydration and vitamins. You guys gave me the courage to try it. After I had it done, I didn't feel much of a difference and figured I just spent a bunch of $ to relax for an hour in a massage chair. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But this has been the best week I've had energy-wise in the last seven months. And I kind of wish I could post before/after pics because apparently I was very bloated. I've been focusing on keeping up with my hydration at home. Thx ladies!

How do I get a job as a Mechanical Engineer if I dont have experience?

I couldn’t get an internship while in school. I have a BS in ME and projects from school under my belt. I’ve also passed the FE exam. I’ve been mostly just doing CAD for a company for the last year by creating minimally dimensioned drawings and moving parts around in assemblies. I want to evolve in my career and be doing more. I worked so hard to earn my degree and I feel like I’m not even using it. But who will hire me?

About what percent of reps hit their number at your company? I’ve been an enterprise AE in SaaS for 6 years and it’s like feast or famine at both companies I’ve been at. I’ve done solid but you can’t help but feel annoyed to see the same reps getting handed opportunities. Time at company and time in territory are huge factors but it takes some bumpy years to get there unless you get some momentum in your book walking in the door. Thanks for the tangent! Thoughts?

My boyfriend lost his mother few months ago. It was very unexpected. How can I support him going forward ? He talks way less as he’s slowly realizing she’s gone and he’s very sad. I don’t know what to do beside being there for him and giving him space when needed. He said I’m very supportive but I’m a bit scared this will affect our relationship as a couple on the long term. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

When applying for a big tech company like Microsoft or Meta, who do you address your cover letter to? Is it possible to find out who will be reviewing your application when the company is that big?

I’ve seen it suggested to call the respective division and see if you can get a more precise answer. Has this been successful for any of y’all?
