Left my country 8 years ago to take an opportunity at a US firm. Recently had a call with my mother and my nieces and nephews. This is the first time in my life that I can see my age through my family. Honestly feel like I missed out on a lot of major family events/milestones in pursuit of a better life and career. I’m really considering moving back to my country even though I’m preparing to propose to my girlfriend. Life has an interesting sense of humor.

I completely agree with you; I feel the same. Been away from my family for 10 years now and since I see them annually in lesson then it’s easier to noticing aging. If you decide to go back home, make sure you do it for the right reasons. I know if I tell my family that I would like to move back, my mother would be telling me not to do it and to build my own life here instead. It’s a tough one… no doubt of that. All the best for you my friend; think it through and move on ☺️

After you marry your girlfriend and have kids they will become your family. You can always move your parents or visit them every year. As the person above said. Make sure you do it for the right reasons

If I were a psychologist, I would guess that your desire to move back home all of a sudden is a sign of cold feet about marrying your girlfriend.

Hmmm not really. Being homesick has nothing to do with his romantic relationship.

I joined Deloitte in 19’ and don’t buy into the circlejerk that seems to go on both for / against the company - I like being a part of the firm but am underwhelmed with where the recent compensation cycle resulted. I have an opportunity with a small business to get a roughly $45k salary increase, but would have 2 sacrifice the security of Deloitte, wfh and paternity leave, which will come into play this fall as we have a baby due in November. Anyone make a similar switch before or havethoughts?

Everyone has the right to choose, but you do not get to choose the consequences of that choice. You can choose to not get vaccinated but the consequences might be that you have to change jobs or vaccinated people choose not to be around you. If you choose to not vaccinate your child then the consequence might be that you have to homeschool them. Choices all have consequences - whether good or bad.
