Left SALT public after 3 years and am experiencing my first provision season in industry. It's a big learning curve since I have no prior provision experience and I feel like I'm so slow and my manager regrets hiring me. Any advice? Am i over thinking it?

Oh, that’s not bad. When I left public for industry first at the first week, I felt that my tax experience at Public didn’t help since it’s tax provisions that I haven’t done any before. We are 5 people. The VP hired me but I felt that the manager didn’t like me first. I have learned everything by myself for working remotely, including new tax software, various state returns and tax provisions. I have proven myself as a quick learner and done complexity consolidation returns. Now, I’m high performer and they like me. Just give yourself a little time to prove yourself and time will tell.

Focus on what you can control. Work hard and strive to get better. You will then win your manager’s heart and respect.

If you’re 4 years out of school, and get an offer that doubles total comp (150K > 300K) would you accept regardless of whether it is the career you want to pursue.

For example do you take a SWE job or a PE job even if you’re not sure if that you want to pursue the career? Let’s say you enjoy consulting and staying is the alternative

Of course there are other variables but just wondering what most people say

Senior up for promo to manager in audit in next year. Have decided I do not want to be an auditor. Which of these paths do you think is best?

1. Stay 1 more year, exit to industry with manager title.
2. Move to advisory internally, but most likely would have to do one more year in audit and move as audit manager to advisory sr
3. Exit immediately into industry to try for accounting manager title / senior accountant or sr fin analyst
4. Exit immediately to advisory senior at another big 4 firm
