That’s not true. Only if you use a first and last name would you need to do that. I’ve done it before plenty of times, and we use an agency person and have them sign a release for $20 or a gift card. You have to give them something to make it legal.
This is correct. Only need to clear if first name / last name.

No. Sounds off. If you have a script where a group of people are sitting around talking about a hypothetical friend, you don’t need a release for a made up person you never casted, who is never on camera. Or someone calling their dog by her name but the dog is off camera, so you have to find a random dog you didn’t cast?
I’ve gotten the advice that the more common a name, the better. I believe the logic is the more common, the less a single individual can have grounds for a complaint or claim it is their likeness.
We used my name in a Donate Life spot. It was pretty rad!
And yes, I had to sign a release and whatnot.
