My wife is irate as the only reason this high performer isn’t getting promoted is because the penis’ in the room decided because she had a kid a year ago she needs more time.
To say my wife is livid is an understatement. I Agree with her and I’m sorry for those that have to deal with that type of BS!!
Those that have to deal with the BS is half the population 🥺
This is the time to speak up and ask:
Is the only reason we’re not giving her a promotion that she had a child 10 months ago?

We need more women like your wife advocating for women. So often women tear each other down, but if we worked together instead we could help each other.
It’s sad how true this statement is. Some of the worst bosses my wife has had were other females that would try tear her down and not support her when needed. It’s quite crazy to witness and hard seeing her struggle thru it as her husband.

I know a very accomplished female lead, who was tapped to be an “interim” CIO while the company recruited a more suitable male replacement. The argument used to justify this was that she had 2 small children at home and this would cause conflict with the needs of the role (which we all know is not a 24/7 or critical worker role). They did not even offer her the chance to counter. FYI - This is was at a high profile fashion ecommerce company that made public brand/marketing statements on fair employment / gender equality on their corporate site. It is this mindset that is the problem and will continue to be the problem. I am also now pissed off so your wife has some company.
This is similar to the "glass cliff" problem where companies find it more palatable to promote women into leadership roles only when the company is doing poorly or is in transition. Awful stuff. https://hbr.org/2011/01/how-women-end-up-on-the-glass-cliff
