You must not have read the CYA policy during your firm's oboarding. §1.1 clearly states all client communications must be documented in writing and signed in blood, either theirs or yours. More likely yours.

It didn't happen unless someone wrote it down.

Right. I wrote it down and read it back. Few days later client says "I don't remember that?" I hate to be an a-hole and it sucks to constantly send emails with "per our conversation" but with some of these clients there really is no other option.

The intern says document everything and send out meeting notes to make sure they know what they said

Been on 3 projects since this lockdown started. Will say that the 2 projects with clients that had "video on" rules felt more collaborative and like we were building relationships. New project feels like everyone is just one long conference call with people who don't trust each other thats gone to hell. I miss in person meetings only because I feel like more people are generally kinder in person.

Is it worth getting proper dining etiquette lessons?

I grew up learning certain table manners (no elbows on the table, no slurping, no licking fingers, eat with your mouth closed, etc). But I’ve seen partners line their spoons up a certain way, fold their napkin on a certain leg, etc.

Looking to have top tier etiquette if/when I get to the point of dining out with clients. Thx

Got a bit too drunk at a work happy hour. Nothing embarrassing happened but I definitely blacked out and could’ve said stuff that I wouldn’t have said sober. Everyone else was also drinking quite a bit, so it was fine but not ideal and I’ve just been ashamed. Lesson learned. This happen to anyone? How do you get over the shame/anxiety of “what happened?”

Need some advice. A close male colleague of mine knows the challenges I face as a woman in an all male team. He recently has been trying to promote his own leadership on a project we both work on. Yesterday, he was mad at an exec and spoke over me, shot down what I said and made me feel stupid for saying it, then turned around 15 minutes later and made the same point, and said things like all of the work I did to help his program was “pointless”, meanwhile we’ve been given kudos on that work...

In my recent review I was told to follow through on projects/own them, and get my ideas in front of the client. I’m a little confused on how? (cont in comments)

Does anyone else not feel professionally satisfied? I’ve accomplished everything I really wanted. Got into dream schools, the firm I wanted, client groups, transfers, etc. Every promotion has come and ratings are great. I should be comfortable and satisfied, but then I feel like I can always professionally accomplish more? Yet I look around I don’t see many “better” options and / or alternative paths.

One thing I notice about a lot of veterans when we get out is that we think we have a monopoly on leadership. On my last project at a large energy provider, I had a manager, an Indian gentleman who came to the us on a H1B visa. He has spent his entire career doing IT projects and has no formalized “leadership schools” or military experience and yet he is easily one of the most capable leaders I’ve ever met. Continued Below
