Let's cool it with the layoff threads team. Consulting is up or out and the business model depends on 15-20% churn to work. Unless you're seeing 1 in 5 people quitting expect some firings every year

Sounds like OP is doing the laying off.

like

OP get out of here with that, people can discuss whatever they feel. So what if people want to start layoff threads. If you were to get layed off you wouldn't act that way. Show some sympathy.

like

I agree this might not be the forum for such discussions, but consulting has taken a beating this year/the last 18 months and layoffs/hiring freezes have been happening at a few firms.

like

OP right about the consulting talent model. OP wrong to say we shouldn't discuss layoffs here. Real time info is interesting and relevant and anyway wtf is FB for?

like

YES. This.

like

The fact that Deloitte is struggling and laying off loyal employees is no reason not to share. This is a perfectly good forum to trade layoff info and support those who are being laid off. People have a right to know about these unprecedented layoffs. Unless you are one of the partners precipitating this mess to protect your pension, I can't imagine why you would be trying to supress layoff info.

like

You aren't seeing 1 in 5 people quitting?

Up or out applies to the traditional track but not to the Specialist track. TS&A had too many people at the top of the pyramid earlier this year - and not enough projects for them to manage. Politics drove that cut more than performance. I know several solid 2 level performers who got released.

like

Yeah, see the point about he business model. You can't have the same pace of promotions without up or out and a lot of churn. If specialists spend the same/similar amount of time at each level as their traditional track colleagues without the "out" piece then you will always be too heavy at the top.

like

I agree with D5, where else should people go to discuss layoffs if not here? People on this app talk about the most random things, and that's ok because there is no censorship. So please let people discuss the layoff situation. Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable, it doesn't it shouldn't be brought up. A lot of people that have been laid off were on visas, their livelihoods were altered without warning. So have a heart already.

like

In all honesty, no one cares. It blows my mind the number of people who think they are saints and should be safe. Like OP said, it's up or out.

The specialist model is supposed to be more exclusive, @OP. Very few relative to the broader consulting population.

We just had a new associate start today. They are still on their old biglaw firm’s website. As someone who was previously let go (and has had friends let go), I know what this means. PSA to people who were laid off/fired, remember to let your old firm know when you’re starting at your new firm so it isn’t so obvious that you were let go. I don’t judge people for being let go, but many people are not as friendly/kind.

Currently in a full time role at an RPO but have a potential offer in house on a 6-9 month contract with strong possibility of conversion at Hubspot. Pay is $15k higher than I make now. Would it be a bad decision to take the contract / contract to hire? I don’t doubt my ability to get converted, but the entire market is seeing huge layoffs so it makes me a little nervous. Thoughts?

Anyone know how droga’s data strategy team is? Especially post-Accenture (with their giant team of data scientists)? Will Accenture’s data team make droga’s obsolete?

Does educational prestige matter at all when applying to jobs?

I’m working on my masters in Interaction Design/Human Factors, have related experience in the tech industry, and would like to get a role in Product Design when I graduate. Ideally, I’d like to get in with a “known” company (not necessarily MANGA/FAANG) and while I like the grad program I’m in, it’s at a small school that’s not well known. Would transferring to a “more prestigious” program make me more competitive for jobs?
