I like to think I’m a fairly approachable SM (I’m a sought out counselor and mentor and got good 360 reviews this year). But sometimes I think that my approachability / niceness (I treat people the way I want to be treated) makes people to casual with me or makes them feel like they can show up less prepared. How do I find the right mix and have junior folks remember that I’m still an SM so come at me like one, not like a peer?
Good advice! I love a good advice column btw. Dear Abby is my daily AM reading.
Im an analyst taking over a lead position after 2 SMs above me got rolled off. I’m managing but this work is not sustainable for me. I’m starting to drop things because there’s too much going on. Not sure how to approach the conversation that I can’t handle it all anymore
Thank you! This is helpful!!
My goal is to get into consulting. I want to learn workday with HCM Core. However every recruiter has brushed me off with a Chemistry background instead of business/accounting/marketing background. I obtained an MBA to make the career change, however no luck at the moment. Most recruiters blow me off once they notice science background. Am I SOL?
OM1 I’m not even OP here but we do Operations consulting and I’m sure your industry experience would fit in there regardless of the chemistry background.
If anything, chemistry confirms you’re smart and can get technical if required.
