Let's say I want to try this nomad lifestyle of living out of van and working remote for an extended period of time. What kind of gig work could I do as a CPA for like 20 hours per week to get by?

Knew a girl that did this, bookkeeping remotely with a CPA.

At PwC we have fully remote positions and (reduced schedule) part time positions. Why not look for something similar at EY?

Ugh following. I’ve been thinking a lot about this too lately.

There are a lot of gig economy tax jobs. Off the top of my head I’ve worked with (hired, not worked for) TaxFyle. Idk how it is as a provider but something like that is worth checking out.

With that said, you are probably best off doing a seasonal gig with one of the big accounting firms. Their hourly pay is really good during tax season, and you’d be a contractor so location shouldn’t matter (within the US).

I’ve tried to do tax fyle before, it is generally pretty competitive as there are lots of people looking to pick up jobs and not enough jobs to go around. You basically have to monitor the site 24/7 and pick up jobs the second they become available. Though it might have changed over the past 2 or so years since the time I was involved.

Agreed with doing seasonal work for a big 4. Can work for part of the year and make good $$. Biggest thing is that there’s no health care so you might be out of pocket for that unless you can get on a spouse’s plan or are still covered under your parents.

I actually work full time - Audit and live out of my car. it is been pretty nice as we aren’t required to come into the office, since it’s busy season it makes sense for me to do so but we have people on our team that’s remote.

i say that to say, pretty much in this environment you can work remotely with nomadic lifestyle in any position. i would just google an entry level job or part time job to accommodate for the hours you are looking for

Look into beech valley solutions

Check out intuit they do part time

When something w MP does come up, I’m always rushed off the phone and can only get a hold of them once every 2-3 weeks to catch up in general. I get that it’s hard to wfh w/ young kids and a fellow Biglaw spouse...(cont’d)
