Let’s say you sell a 3yr long project in September. Do you put the 3yr project in the CRM or break it down? Breaking down is complicated, but full deal close ruins reporting. Firm can’t decide.

@OP Book the full sale now. Revenue recognition needs to follow how you bill and collect. If it’s T&M, revenue is periodic. If it’s FP, you model revenue based on when you hit your payment milestone over the 5 years. Also genuinely surprised that you are a Partner and not know this.

I think the collective intelligence from this crowd is enormous than 1 single individual, i think thats where OP is trying to get ideas. No harm in becoming better.

Break it down and milk it baby.

like

How would you break it down? Reporting is done quarterly, so 12 deals for 12 quarters?

Ask in the partner bowl. I should get a bigger bonus for this

like

Given the community response I might need to. 😓

likefunny

You are a partner.. Shouldn't you know this by now?

like

Yes^

like

At EY it would be put in as the same entry and then broken down separately. Happy to help if you’re with EY. It’s similar to having multiple engagement codes for single project.

like

Does it mean signings get recognized each quarter?

What is your primary concern? Trying to spread the sale or properly recognize revenue?

like

There is no revenue, or cGP issue. This is pure signings issue. What is the partner going to sell for next 3 years, because this is backlog. If it is NOT already sold, sell / scope for 1 year, add PCR next year and the following. You get 3 year signings. Of course client has to agree. The best way to structure this is to talk to your finance guys and they can help structure the deals (friendly ones) The finance guys look for certain commitment from client in SOW. If you can just get a min commit in SOW, say for a quarter, then finance will recognize signings for that specific amount.

like

Humble brag?

No, serious question. I didn’t make this sale.

like

Are you an IBM AP or a P?

No, and P.

OP, how did this settle?

We ended up breaking it into quarterly “chunks” of the larger contract.

Advice/experiences please. About 5 weeks pregnant and feel like total trash... basically like I have a flu (but 99% sure I don’t, it’s just the pregnancy). Could I or should I try to take some sick days? It feels like that should be an option (esp now with covid and unlimited sick days) but I feel like I never hear of anyone doing this. I also don’t want to tell my work what the “sickness” is. I just finished a project so no one is relying on me right this second. What would you do?
