Great mentality on making it a lifestyle vs. a “diet”. Try to focus on small changes first...eating healthier (look for healthier substitutes for unhealthy indulgences)....moving more (maybe try to take a 30 min walk everyday while listening to a podcast or audio book to keep you entertained)...reducing stress (disconnect from technology for at least an hour everyday)...and implementing a regimented sleep cycle. Build yourself a strong foundational lifestyle upon which you can layer more advanced / complex changes
Thanks, this seems simple enough to give it a try! :)
I think diet is more important than exercising, but based on what you said, I’d recommend starting with what’s easier for you (for me, it was exercising) and then incorporating the other when you feel ready
Focus on diet.
Calorie deficit is key to any weight loss and the diet part has a much stronger influence than the workout.
Feel free to DM with questions. I'm no expert, but I've lost quite some weight during pandemic and my key objectives were healthy diet and very light workouts.

I focused on my diet first, and as D2 said, focused on it as a lifestyle change. I was changing my lifestyle to one of a person who is healthier and happier because of it. For a while I was eating the exact same thing for every breakfast and lunch every day, and then changing things up at dinner time to keep myself interested. But fundamentally I changed my attitude about food by making it generally boring and straightforward. Then, I added in little bits of exercise a few days a week to slowly make that a habit and learn to enjoy my exercise time. Especially now, it is a great way to remove yourself from a monotonous, at-home-only lifestyle.
I've been eating "good" and exercising 3-5 days a week early AM for about 4 weeks now. I used to workout in the morning before Corona but diet was bad. I have only been counting my calories and upped my proteins and veggies, but I still eat carbs and fats as long as they fit in my macro/calorie budget. Ive lost 6 pounds which isn't much but I'll take it. I think it's easier to start both bc they go hand in hand, but don't be too hard on yourself and if you mess up in one meal, dont think you have ruined it.
Thanks 🙏🙏
Yes!! No diet!! It’s a lifestyle change. You gotta live like that for the rest of your life if you wanna keep the weight off! Honestly once you start eating better, you’ll have more energy to exercise. And once you start doing both, you’ll see results that’ll make you keep going!
You got this OP! Started watching what I ate and found an exercise I love (I love spin class and going to Zumba) and I’ve lost 25 lbs! Of course there are some days where I eat a bowl of pasta for dinner, or the occasional pizza order BUT key is to back to healthy eating as soon as you can!!
Diet is definitely the hardest thing people deal with when revamping their health in fitness. However, I think tackling both at the same time would be beneficial. It’s easy to change one thing and feel like you don’t want to tackle the next until you have “perfected” the first. Then you get stuck in that one focus where you could have a more holistic approach. I do online fitness coaching and see this in a lot of clients who come to me who were unable to stick to plans previously. Feel free to DM me if you want to talk more about it!
Spot on AS! You need to enjoy what you are doing and have an idea of what a goal feeling/appearance is for you, that is all that matters and the only way you will stick to things!
One thing too is when you are “dieting” to lose weight you are trying to reduce caloric intake, if you take on exercise at the same time that makes you more hungry which can make it difficult to balance the two. I have found getting used to a healthier diet first and then introducing exercise once you’re in a good eating pattern is the way to go.
