Let’s talk staff gifts for the holidays. For those in BigLaw, how much do you all usually spend on secretary and paralegal gifts?

Wait what? So if you’ve worked at the firm for 10 years you have to spend $1K on the gift?

I'm also curious about this

I do $200 for my secretary, but with COVID this year, I decided to also send a small gift basket as an extra thank you ($50 worth). I do $100 for each of the paralegals I work with.

My firm has a rule of thumb for secretary gifts of $100 per year you’ve worked at the firm.

When does it make sense to leave a startup for Big Tech (Google, FB, Apple). First 10 in a startup but I didn’t receive much equity. The benefit is that I will probably be able to grow much quicker and have more a leadership position here than in Tech, but in Tech I’d get a very good salary, sign on, bonuses and RSUs etc.

If my office location is Seattle but I have been living in Texas during coronavirus WFH period for rest of the year, can I contact payroll to avoid paying any Seattle based taxes(no state tax but they have some smaller ones)? A goal of mine is to leave my PA firm (one of the big 4) this year. Currently in my fourth busy season. Do you think I should wait until getting promoted to senior and leave right after, or leave after this spring busy season? I am not super eager to get a senior position because with Covid and the inevitable learning curve, I don’t feel equipped to accept one. So I was thinking of applying for entry positions. Any advice?

Advice Needed: Last month I was laid off from work, however, since have been able to secure another position with another firm (located 90 minutes from my house in a more rural part of the state) doing real estate closings. Aside from the commute and the work (not incredibly fulfilling or challenging) the job is fine. I do consider myself incredibly fortunate to be employed during these challenging times. Do I aggressively continue my job search or wait until the beginning of the year?
