LEK typically will put a pre-MBA experienced hire with ~1 year of experience and start you off in the associate role. You get an accelerated timeline (1-1.5 years as opposed to 2) to get promoted to the next level (associate consultant)
Thank you!
MBA shouldn't be necessary; these jumps can and do happen, at both levels. In general, I think the level of promotion may matter less than demonstrating a successful or accelerated career trajectory--e.g. if you can get promoted 'ahead of expectations.' LEK1 is correct on slotting; from what I've seen, Tier 2s almost always slot pre-MBA lateral hires from boutiques as an associate or equivalent, even if they're currently in an EM role (think that maps to Consultant at Avascent). Hope this helps.
Thank you!
Yep, places like LEK will place you as an associate cause (I) they don’t have research arms like MBB and you’ll need to do ground work (2) they don’t have enough training resources and you’ll need to learn on the job hence need to start from ground work and (3) DD is a labour intensive job, just need bodies to do grunt work and so they’d prefer people to do ground work...
I'm an EM (consultant) and I get hit up all the time for Tier 2s. MBB have shown some moderate interest in grabbing Avascent people, but for A&D focused roles.
When leaving a boutique, starting in different verticals than you work in is a slightly longer putt, IMO.
Thanks for the insight!
