It will be really hard. You can always cold apply, but networking in your local area or within your universities alumni may be a better bet. Good luck!
Thank you!! I think I’m up for the challenge. I will definitely take your advice. Most of the McK alumni from my school are Harvard MBA grads though so not sure how I’ll fair. 🗿
It's going to be a tough job to get in without being from a target school. Network, network, network. That is the best advice I can give.
It was easy for Big 4 bc I’m in a target school — I’m not sure how to network when I have 0 contacts. Is cold applying worth it at all? There are listings online.

We’re you B4 accounting? If so it doesn’t hold any weight to finance jobs or consulting.
You’ll have a tough time if not impossible breaking into BB IB or MBB consulting from a non target school, unless you have 3.9+ GPA and stellar networking skills.
Also, do yourself a favor and switch out of accounting lol. I just jumped from accounting to consulting and it took 4 years. Pay almost doubled.

Well, with accounting have to get a masters (or 150 credit hours with some specific acct courses, not necessarily a masters) to be eligible for CPA. lol so that’s out
With that high of a GPA, absolutely go for IB or MBB! Def possible. Best way is to see if your school has any clubs geared to those. I went to a non target too and we had an IB club and that’s where the recruiting events were done through. They weren’t formal recruiting but basically alum from your school may participate in them and it’s a good way to build connections.
I really can’t stress enough though, don’t do accounting when you have higher aspirations like IB and Consulting. I changed to accounting my senior year then did the masters, and was stuck in accounting until almost manager at deloitte. They pay sucks, the hours are shit, and the only exit ops are accounting roles that will stick you at 150k salary for the rest of your life, unless you make partner or CFO.
