Liking BAH but wanting to get out of public sector. How will recruiters at Big 4 look at me if I come to them with only federal tech experience wanting to do commercial MC? Not interested in b-school.

Just convert the tech roles into leadership roles and stuff. You could possibly take some trainings that are for MC and make sure they're universally valued in fed and comm. I love BAH but I also want to explore commercial bc of fishbowl lol

like

I'm with you OP. What level are you?

like

BA2: DC. Everyone at BAH is in DC c'mon you know that. BA1: I don't see or hear about MC projects. It's not that I'm not getting them, I just don't know anyone doing them outside of people in MENA.

like

Sounds like you should've gotten a good business education

like

Not very favorably, MC is getting saturated so companies look for fit with past experience for non MBAs

BA2: C. Sort of in an odd spot as an exp here into C role. Lots of friends who started in MC have been promoted at least once by now and it's unclear if I'll make SC this year. BA1: I try to but if I didn't make the effort I would never touch excel or pp. It's not just bad luck, every project feels like it's systems delivery. PwC: would a brief exit into industry help more? Goal is to do consulting long-term, but I don't like the function of industry in going down so I'm not that motivated to keep doing it...

Hmm take our advanced management consulting training program, get some consulting certs for specific roles in mc, and some advanced deck building in class trainings to build your resume and connect with folks that focus on real MC projects. Also switch over to CCG if you're not already

I didn't think certs mattered outside PMO work which is unattractive work anyway. Do you put trainings on your resume? Haven't met folks doing real MC projects lol. Even a lot of the commercial work is SD. Not in CCG, but I think admin team matters more than which branch you're under, no? Deloitte seems to get all the interesting public sector MC projects, but I don't know if we're even competing with them for it or not.

Are you in the D.C. metro area or one of the geographies? Which one?

Yea commercial is mostly tech related stuff unless you were directly hired into commercial which would mean you're in NYC. Our DIG practice is closer to govt contracting whereas our CCG is closer to federal consulting. Try to switch if you want more opps in that. If you don't want to do anything that proves that you can do some MC projects such as taking the trainings that your peers in MC are taking, going back to school, and don't have experience in it then how are you going to convince a manager to staff you on their project?

OP like 50% of Booz Allen isn't in DC.. you realize there are government installations all across the US 😐

OP not me unfortunately

How long have you been at C? I'm an LA and have been a CM for several years. We will pretty much promote C to SC after 2 years if you can fog a mirror. One year if you're good. C's aren't good to staff on proposals because you get paid overtime instead of diluting your rate.

BA3: I'll clarify. McLean, Herndon, Crystal City, etc. and the other VA/MD offices are all inclusive of "DC" if you're saying more than 50% is outside the DC metro area, I'd call bs. This isn't really relevant one way or another. I'm in DC/VA/MD like most people. BA2: Between 6 months to 1.5 years. I may get the promo this year, but I don't have confidence in my CM to go to bat for me and obviously haven't been promoted at Booz Allen before so I don't know the process well. If I enjoyed the tech work and wanted to do SI/SD projects, I wouldn't have an qualms, but it's dull and the bad projects are tainting my otherwise positive view of he firm and at this point it's weighing whether doing interesting work + getting more pay at a firm I wouldn't like (Deloitte) is better than doing painfully dull work at a firm I like (Booz Allen) or maybe I'm pigeon holed and have to do something else. I don't know.

The process is this: Twice a year, your HRBP will send an email to CMs calling for promotion nominations. Your CM submits the form (basically a 1-2 paragraph justification) back to the HRBP. It is reviewed and approved by your Principle, although most P won't approve without consent from your SA. The mid cycle nom period should start in April for a July 1st promotion. Or October for the January 1st.

Working as an audit staff in big 4 shared service centre. It's been 2 years. I really don't like what I do there, also it seems I won't like what I'll be doing there even after becoming senior. Thinking of leaving and joining industry once ACCA qualified. (One more paper left). But people around me discourage that growth potential and earnings in industry are way less compared to public accounting. I know that too but I still want to leave. I'd like to stick to core accounting. Thoughts pls
