LinkedIn outreach to the would-be boss for a role you’ve recently applied to ... inappropriate, right?

No way, reach out. But be friendly and cool. Don’t make it weird.

OP. People reach out to me via email, phone calls and LI all the time and I appreciate meeting new people who may be able to help me. If they suck, I’m not interested but if they are good I try to respond. Not always because life. If the boss is fussy about LinkedIn may she/he won’t be great to work for. Just my thoughts.

I once figured out the email of an owner/partner and emailed directly with a link. Had an interview later that week and was hired soon after. Go for it

like

If tactful it shows extreme interest. If you are a bona fide candidate with a decent chance at the role, I say do it. (But I'm no recruiter)

like

That’s what LI is for. If the person you contact via LI doesn’t respond to your initial contact, then why are they on LI in the first place? It’s a NETWORKING WEBSITE! Duh!

like

Why inappropriate? It’s very hard to break though HR at the bigger shops these days. If the communication is respectful and friendly and shows interest it makes sense.

like

EP1 IDK why it feels inappropriate! I guess I’m feeling self conscious that it could do more harm than good if the personality happens to be put off by this, ya know? But it’s a dream company and I know I’m qualified, and I don’t want it to slip by!

like

EP1 just answered why recruiters don't answer every email or message they receive.

like

Thanks guys! I added her on LinkedIn and she accepted/added me back, but she didn’t reply to my note. Got a rejection today. Bummer.

Appreciate all of your help and insights!

like

EP1 🙏🙏 I appreciate your insight (and others who replied here) ... thank you

Definitely do it! Keep it short and sweet and relevant. Good luck!

if I like the candidate, they can reach out in any way. even if I don’t hire you, I like you and want to connect.

If I don’t like the candidate, it doesn’t matter. nothing will make me like them more or less.

How do you reach out tactfully?

Is it possible to land a financial analyst position with only 6 months of experience in audit? I tried to stick it out w/ B4 but I don’t think I can do it anymore. I’m mostly seeing entry level jobs that are called “financial analyst” but include duties like JE/reconciliations. I don’t have SQL/Tableau experience either... so not sure if I just need more experience in a diff role first?
