Omg I feel the same way. I hate to be ageist, but I don’t want tech policy from people who still need their grandchildren, children, or nieces/ nephews to teach them how to turn on their smartphones.
https://www.wired.com/story/why-zuckerberg-15-year-apology-tour-hasnt-fixed-facebook/
Especially the one who asked if law enforcement need a warrant to join a facebook group and click “like” on a post 😂
Orrin hatch: well, I just don’t know how a company that doesn’t charge for access survives.
Zuckerburg: Sir, we run ads.
God bless America for our great representation.
You’re assuming too much of our current senators P1. There were way too many stupid questions asked for me to give them the benefit of the doubt
They are too old.
Previous administration gutted and removed the part of the federal Gov't dedicated to educating our aging law makers on tech issues.
And mark has been apologizing for years.
This is all Kabuki theater.
Orrin hatch: "idgaf about Microsoft either. Tell me about your new age lemonade stand, sonny..."
One must assume that a senator with 42 years of experience recognizes what he does and does not care about, and know the answers to lots is his questions before he asks them. I assume Orrin hatch was making the point that Facebook is just a business doing business, and that people are free to remain oblivious if they choose to, but lack of understanding is no excuse for outrage anymore. Also, I assume he was running down the clock on any other senator getting excited about regulating Facebook.
"emailing on WhatsApp" was my favorite question. How about I DM you on your fax machine congressman 🙄🙄🙄
Right...
He's probably running circles around them
That Wired article though
^A1 which article?

He honestly just seemed like a generally confused old person. I’m not sure if there was any serious goal so much as someone who doesn’t understand social media, and apparently none of his staff that’s supposed to prepare him do either.
@d4, is it more likely that he dgaf or more likely that nobody in his entire office ed willing to help him understand basic undisputed functionality for five minutes? I think someone would have told him in advance that Facebook sells advertising if he actually wanted to know the business model for his own edification.
