OP, I was in a similar situation 2 years ago... didn’t have CC’s, defaulted on my student loans but lost my job and then my landlord sold his condo and I had to move with no ability to put a down payment ... I had to put everything in storage and I started staying in the cheapest AirB&Bs $5-10/day shared rooms... I was counting on a tax refund to float me but it ended up getting garnished bc of my loans.... I felt so desperate. Same situation no friends/family and everyday I took the bus to the library to apply for jobs online .... I was on the second round of interviews at Deloittte but it would be another 7 months before the final interviews. I had to take a job in another state and all I had was my suitcase and enough money to pay a month at a hotel... I didn’t eat for almost 2 weeks no money.... the only word I can think of is desperate. I’d go to work feeling hopeless, hungry, angry depressed, ashamed... but I eventually got paid and then 2 months later got an offer from Deloittte and moved back ....besides the fear of getting laid off now at Deloittte and being in the same spot it got better...

My point is you need to buy yourself time.... with the little checking/savings number 1) you need shelter! If you can get movers & put everything in storage ... find the cheapest shelter I haven’t checked in but I think airb&b is probably still the cheapest you just need shelter, Wifi and your laptop 2) food

If it gets worst case scenario get a gym membership at 24 hr fitness, you can shower there, public library during the day and if you have a car you can sleep in it... I was homeless in high school and had to for a little bit before a coach took me in and then friends... depending on what skills you have there’s Upwork and Fiverr post on there for freelance gigs

...no family/friends. Enjoy what you have, and remember to throw a dollar bill in a homeless person’s cup if you have it. Because I never thought I would soon be that homeless person

D2 so, so sorry to hear about your situation. You persevered! and it adds a level of humility that we often forget in the pretentious consulting world and on fishbowl...

OP where are you based? Based on your title were you at KPMG?

My total experience is around 7+ years and am currently working in a MNC from the past 4 years. I was planning to make a switch to some other company but recently my manager has mentioned to me in person and as well as on my appraisal feedback (in writing) that I will be nominated for the H1B visa in the coming cycle. This was in July 2022. Should I be worried that it won't happen or should I start looking for the switch.?

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

Please share what you considered as you were making the decision - I hate throwing away rent but also don’t want to trap ourselves in significant financial obligations. Thanks!

I've just recently been hired as an assistant manager at a Canadian outlet store. It's a small company in comparison to others, but there are over 10 locations spanning western Canada and NW united states. I'm curious as to what others in a similar position are getting as salary. I was offered $42k plus bonuses at the interview, but when called back I was offered $44.5k plus bonuses. I already accepted. Did I leave money on the table here?

COMMENTS REQUESTED!

In the past, lawyer wellness and lawyer discipline/character fitness for bar applicants have existed in silos. I’d like to finally form a bridge between lawyer disciple and lawyer wellness and focus on prevention. When we think of lawyer discipline, we automatically think of outrageous behavior like stealing money. Those are extreme. The common cases are too stressed out and forgetting deadlines or death of a loved one and not having time to call clients back. Cont’d

Really trying not to spiral, and my practice group leader has been openly hostile to and dismissive of me lately. I haven’t mentioned my depression/anxiety to him because we’re not exactly getting along swimmingly, but I don’t know who else to talk to about my MH. Fighting with my wife hasn’t helped either. Really not sure how to handle it aside from counseling but that isn’t getting me anywhere fast. Thoughts?
