Litigation laterals how much ramp up time did you get to familiarize yourself with the new firm? Ramp up time to me is where you have a fairly slow workload and just coasting

as a junior associate, i won’t believe i’ll ever get a slow workload in big law. but when I lateraled, it took me 4-5 months to get a feel of a new file system, and learn how each partner and associate in my practice group operates. so, i’m running efficiently, but work has definitely not slowed.

My company has agreed to sponsor my GC! Yeehaa. They mentioned there will be a repayment clause if I leave within a certain period, which I think is only fair. Haven’t seeing the writing yet but hoping to prepare somewhat. For anyone that has this happen, what were your terms and conditions? Also - my SO will be on the GC application, does that cost the company extra i.e. should I be expected to pay the excess (if any) out of pocket?

Our school uses Foss Kits for Science and I was told when students return, we will need to sanitize all items before and after each use. This doesn’t seem possible in a middle school setting where each period has a 4 minute break and 25 students in each period. What do you do in your classroom to minimize the amount of work needed to clean and sanitize items. I don’t want to short change the students’ hands-on experiences.

I’m tired of unreasonable deadlines and my team “failing” because the deadlines we got tied to were not even set by us, the ones building the apps.

Does anyone find an attack on the Examiner’s prima facia showing of obviousness a lot more effective than distinguishing each and every prior art reference.

I recently underwrote a reply to final. Didn’t even bother with the references since I just got the case. Overcame the rejections.

Can anyone comment on how effective this is?

I thought biglaw was going to make me more attractive with girls (I have had my share of women in the past, but I wouldn’t say I’m too popular).

Worked for 4 years now, many dates called off bc of my work schedule and most girls lose interest bc they see me as a workoholic. And those who stick around expect dinners, travels and gifts paid for by yours truly.

Where is that girl I can cuddle up with on the couch with or go running or hiking with? I guess they go for men who have time for them

How much does a letter of recommendation from your current employer help when lateraling? I currently work at a top-tier regional firm in a small market (1M metro)and I’m moving to a large market. There aren’t any biglaw firms in my current market, but associates at my regional firm regularly lateral to biglaw in big markets. I’ve applied to biglaw firms in the larger market but not much luck. I’m well liked at my firm. Will a letter of rec from my employer be a significant boost to my app?

Need some advice from my biglaw family. I’m a 2nd year lit associate. I will draft briefs and motions that I feel are pretty good and when I get them back from senior associates, they’re sometimes completely re-written. I’ve been assured I am not a bad writer and that “it will come” but the changes these seniors make are just SO GOOD. So my question is, how have people here become better legal writers? Is it just a matter of giving it time? I want to write like these senior associates write!

Can we be honest for a second? No one has a clear policy for how we should be billing our time and no one wants to ask. I’ve heard perspectives ranging from, “a good faith estimate at the end of the week is sufficient” to “you need to have a timer going at all times and if you don’t turn it off when you pee, you’re committing an ethical violation”... also, “Bill anything that moves the deal forward” vs. “You can’t bill for collating documents. That’s not legal work.”
