[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

I am a Principal Solutions Architect with 13 YOE of which 5 years exp is with Biotech focusing on Public Cloud (AWS) & overall AWS exp. 9 years. I need suggestions /opinions if applying for a Senior Solutions Architect (Level6) at AWS makes sense or if I should aim for a Principal SA (level 7) role at AWS with Healthcare & Lifesciences industry experience. If it makes any difference, I worked for AWS ProServe as an external SA in the past. Any insights / feedback appreciated.

But you will get to eat healthier and sleep in your own bed and meet friends on weekdays. Trade-offs.
D1- True. Traveled for 9 months straight, needed a break, but I'm tired of the commute already #neverhappy
D1 i traveled 2 years straight for a project in which I had to leave Sunday morning and didn't get home till early Friday morning because it was a coast to coast flight. You start loosing friends real quick after the umpteenth time you couldn't make it due to work, a flight, errands, or just needed some rest haha. If I started working locally idk what is I would do since it's awkward between most friends now
Yikes. WFH an option?
EY1- WFH is rarely an option, according to the SM, "we're not in a good place just yet to be able to drive initiatives remotely..."
Same exact position as you OP. Been on a travel project for a year. Now local with 2 hr commute round trip. Will definitely miss WFH on Friday and the perks of travel. Been trying to stay positive about the local perks - mainly healthier eating, potential for starting a life at home, etc.
Been there, sucks! Two train lines and a bus each way. Never again!
@OP- enjoy the welcome break :) it might actually be fun exploring your own city once in a while!
@A1- I agree with you. It's awkward at first but people do surprise you! It's always fun joining hobby classes or start inviting others out first.
I commute 2 hours a day (1 each way) and Audible has saved my sanity. Best dollars I have ever spent on the subscription. I supplement that with free audio books from the library. Makes that commute much better.
