Niagara on the lake

Just came back from 3 days in Niagara with a 2yr old. Stayed in one of the marriots. Drove to some good restaurants and patios in Notl and around. Some hiking on the Bruce trail. Loved the falls. Rode the funicular and the bus. Walked down the tourist street. Ice cream on Queen Street in Notl. White water board walk. Worst thing was that niagara proper had no nice coffee shops. Even survived the rain.

Curious about non-US attorneys: are you working the crazy hour weeks most of us in the US do? Or are your weeks closer to 40 hours? I hear a lot about the working hour caps, vacation requirements, etc in Europe/Canada. Curious if that flows into legal practice... or if it gets ignored. To clarify—I’m talking about BigLaw. I’m sure there are smaller firms with reasonable hours, the same exists in the US.

1. Benefits included and when does my eligibility start at PWC

4. Bonus compensation (Yearly / Mid year Bonus, Joining Bonus)

Boss: I need you to stop challenging me on every decision.

Me: I don’t want us to have a confrontational relationship and I think we can agree something needs to change. When you make stupid decisions, that affects my business and it makes me feel like you’re not up to the job. That makes it harder for my team to do our jobs. I think to be an authentic leader I need to be radically candid with you and point our your mistakes. So are you willing to work with me on this?

Mostly to vent, but wonder if anyone else has had to deal with this…my team consists of a partner, shareholder, 3 associates, myself and a legal assistant. We have a busy docket, 70 active litigation files. For over a year I have been dealing with inexperienced legal assistants, mostly coming from other areas of law. The partner relies heavily on me to clean up the messes, fix the mistakes, etc., and HR is on me for doing too much admin, i.e., non-billable work.

So does anyone know if tomorrow will be a recognized federal holiday? If it is I can’t bill hours… so no work…
