What level are you at? 1st 5-10 years bigger city offers the most. Agree w previous reply, work hard play hard is the mantra. Usually works well for younger professionals. Some perspective - I grew up and lived right outside NYC. When kids arrived moved further out from NYC. Now kids are in college, and last one off to college next fall - we are moving closer to or into NYC for culture, theatre, dining and social. Good luck - it all depends on what you are looking for. People around the country speak highly of Vegas, SF, Tampa, Scottsdale, and Chicago. All favorites of mine to travel too.

Thank you! I’m 5 years out of college in May.. looking to relocate out of Wisconsin but nothing really holding me to any one area.

Phoenix / Scottsdale Arizona. Growing market with California business relocating here. Excellent weather 9 months out of the year. Work remotely from the mountains to escape the summer heat. Still (for now) relatively affordable compared to other major metros in the west yet still offers professional sports teams, PGA golf tournament, various other events (spring training, concerts, Barret Jackson, etc.) and word class dining / shopping. 5 hour drive to San Diego beaches, Vegas, 2 hours to mountains. I’ve loved throughout California (San Diego & Bay Area) and the Pacific Northwest; ultimately landed with Scottsdale as my home. Message me and we can probably hire you here at RSM (largest National firm in Arizona and we rival the Big 4 here - it’s a middle market town).

+1 for Phoenix. :)

Moved from Midwest to NYC and couldn’t be happier! Entire city embraces work hard, play hard, if that’s your thing

As a Nebraskan who moved out of state after college, Lincoln is an absolute gem :) couldn’t put up with those Midwestern winters anymore, however.

San Diego, and it’s not even close. You’ll thank me later.

I’ve lived in San Diego. Hard to make ends meet even on a dual family income (one income is a partner income) w/ kids. I find myself spending more time on the San Diego beaches now that I’ve relocated to Phoenix metro. Taxes (all levels - gas, sales, income, property, etc.) , COL (food, housing, child care, etc etc) , and traffic are absolutely insane. San Diego (and most of California) is a great place to live if you earn 7 figures and/or inherited a paid for costal property from your parents. Otherwise, the rat race there sucks. Look elsewhere; you’ll thank me later

SA1 It’s always an opinion thing so I understand how there can be a different perspective, but I find the PA wilds relatively boring. I lived in western PA for four years and didn’t particularly like the surrounding areas; the people were nice though.

Miami, you'll be the smartest person here

We’re full in Miami 🙃

Iowa City

I don’t, but I work with several people in Iowa City. I misread the original post (thought OP was looking for a place to relocate to in the Midwest). Everyone I’ve spoken to that lives in the Midwest seems to tolerate it at the very least. Always very friendly, plus the low cost of living doesn’t hurt

Bergen county nj. Can commute to NYC but don't have to live with rats

Can second that. I live in Jersey City.🤣🤣🤣

which makes it even worse, because then youre marching through horrible weather to get to your public transportation. personally, i don’t like public transportation. i like to have personal space. but to each their own.

Having lived in Phoenix, Seattle, DC, Omaha, and Lincoln, Phoenix has been the bang for my buck. Even if COL has been spiking since half the country is moving here… that said, great weather, still somewhat affordable COL for being the fourth largest city in the US, hiking/skiing/anything outdoorsy really, great restaurants, blossoming brewery scene, friendly/diverse population (very easy to make friends here), there’s just something for everyone.

like

PWC1, I guess relatively speaking to the other places I have lived. Not having to shovel sunshine or deal with SAD is nice. Also one caveat I would like to make for AZ, our school systems are awful so take that into consideration.

Moved to Tampa a few years ago and love it

Bay Area

funny

As a Bay Area native, I feel like most people who enjoy living in the bay are natives who have been here all their lives. They’re somewhat used to the expensive housing costs. A lot of my former coworkers came out from out of state because their husbands got jobs at Facebook, Google, etc, but they still felt poor cuz of housing costs, so they jumped ship to higher paying jobs as soon as they became seniors

like

Cincinnati, Raleigh, Charlotte, and Columbus are all great. Go somewhere where you can actually afford a home Not sure why everyone feels compelled to move to NYC or SF after college 🤔🤔🤔

I second raleigh! But you better move here soon because everything is getting crazy expensive.

Uhmm not really, it depends on what you want - like living downtown or Subarbs living. I’d say the areas with the most crime are east Des Moines and on the south side, but anywhere around west Des Moines and subarbs are good

Employer:1 I have Eb2 140 approved with PD Jan 2013. In Oct 2020, I filed 140 and 485 in EB3 based on my PD. I140 EB3 approved in premium in Sep 2021. Now I have another offer from Employer 2 and H1b transfer done. Question: my understanding is that 180 rule is good for me as my 485 and 140 filings were in Oct 20,even if 140 was approved in Sep 2021. Is that right? If now, EB2 becomes current and EB3 stays back. Can I do interfile with new employer 485J form for EB2 or do I need to start over
