I agree. Speaking to my own experience on a project, one example: working crazy hours (obv) but the scope and how to measure results are not properly defined, we are wasting time on things that don’t matter, we have duplication and inefficiencies because of incompetence and bad management. We could definitely have done way better in 40 hours/week with proper work. Second though, you can’t go home at 5:30 if the rest of your team isn’t going home at 5:30 and your manager is setting meetings after 6:00pm.

I’ve been onboarding at a new company for a month. I’ve been assigned to PM something a director in another department originally proposed, but I am really struggling to work out how to deal with her territorialism and defensiveness. She is insisting on being in on every conversation I have with a stakeholder, gets angry if I answer a question asked directly of me, and shoots down literally everything I’ve suggested. Her team will do most of the implementation. Any ideas on how to “manage up”?
