The thing that most people do not understand about the US is that it’s still a very “rural” country. New York City (Manhattan) is an aberration. The average density of buildings is higher in Paris than in the New York area (including the boroughs and surrounding Metropolitan area.) Americans are closer to rural life which unfortunately means being further away from emergency services etc. Long story short guns do make sense. It’s very much a protect what you got ethos.
Asian 🐠. Considering buying one, seeing how much violence there has been against Asians.
Do it! Rooftop Korean gang rise up.
Just bought one today actually. First ever.
ACN1 insurance in case things get bad and someone tries to break in.
How is that weird?
Lol
Well, a gunshot will kill the virus. It just has the side effect of also killing the host. 😲
And no, this isn’t a serious response so please don’t waste time “educating” me.
Never know when the virus mutates again and turns the infected into zombies tbh.
Watch Contagion. You will change your mind. It’s not the virus. It’s the mob you need protection from.
This society has yet to see a true serious crisis . Based on what happened (albeit at a smaller scale) during hurricane Katrina, I have 0 trust in how people will start acting if things get tight. With this in mind I am happy to have the means of defending myself
In all seriousness, is this a recommended action to take? Gun ownership is not something I thought I’d pursue ever. I live in a safe community in the suburbs, but still a populated and bustling area and I’m home alone a lot. Should I be considering this? Curious to hear serious perspectives.
It also depends on your living situation too. If you have young kids around and no method of securing your weapons, you’re asking for trouble. Same goes if you live with someone in recovery from drug addiction or undergoing mental health treatment.
On the other hand, it’s a reasonable protective measure. It’s like wearing a seat belt or having a tourniquet: the odds of needing it are very low, but it is a game changer should it come to that. If you’re small or physically weak, it’s the only way you can feasibly protect yourself.
Ultimately, it comes down to a personal choice. I’ve trained with firearms my whole life and am very comfortable with them, but some people aren’t, and that is fine too. The most important things if you choose to be a gun owner is to practice and be safe. The weapon does you no good if you cannot operate it under stress, and it hurts everyone if you negligently discharge it.
If you're ever wondering when a gun would become useful during public unrest, look at rooftop koreans during the LA riots or Hurricane Katerina.
I know of some Korean families that lived through those riots. Absolutely terrifying — the police outright abandoned that neighborhood. If they hadn’t had so many rifles and ROK veterans, much more life and property would have been lost.
I think weird is a bit strong. How about "different"? Some of us, likely not the majority, may think it's weird that you're not stocking up. It's a different culture with different priorities, schools of thought, etc.
Law enforcement can be swamped and become ineffective, just like hospitals. I don’t think it’s likely, but it’s happened before. If I were someone inclined to take other people’s things, I would definitely go for the easy and undefended targets first.
You know what they say — God may have made man, but Samuel Colt made them equal.
Why anyone wouldn’t own a gun is beyond me. I get they make people nervous but wouldn’t you rather have one?
My boyfriend has two firearms and he has helped me get comfortable with the idea of a gun in my home (something I never thought I’d be okay with). That said, the data clearly states that having a firearm in the home, even when it's properly stored, doubles your risk of becoming a victim of homicide and triples the risk of suicide.
they’re getting ready to riot and pillage. honestly no reason to need guns
I suppose they take the saying “eating bullets” literally.
My husband hates guns but he’s been talking about buying one the last week 🤷🏼♀️. I told him no.
Love the WWW mentality 😂🤣. If total anarchy breaks our we are all ducked but with that said I might pickup a firearm too.
It’s stupid but we also have Trump as our president so why are we surprised?
Couldn’t agree more but this will never happen.
My boyfriend stopped for ammo on his way home tonight. He already had plenty of TP and frozen chicken, so I guess that was the next thing on the prep list??
He feels better when he’s prepared for the absolute worst case scenario, no matter how improbable. Now that he’s prepared, he can go back to being the lovely rational human that he is.
