- Had to also come in person to check your right to rent and personal docs
- Asked to sign a receipt of giving the holding deposit
- Asked to sign a pre-tenancy agreement that shows the offer and payment terms
- Still resolving payment terms (they're difficult about multiple bank accounts and at least providing a proof of payment if it's coming from one account etc) even though they were agreed beforehand but agency changed their mind
- Still waiting on the tenancy agreement
I'm tired, I want this done and it is still not happening. I am also very uncomfortable with five different parties getting all my personal info (I was already cold called by the referencing agency for renters insurance). I am also stressed that this will fall through as I'm traveling soon and won't have time to look for another place.
The UK needs to get a better handle on renters, it just keeps getting worse. I know nothing of the property but I might as well have given them my DNA and signed away by firstborn for the amount of stuff they require for no bloody reason.
Finding a place to rent last month was the most stressed I've been in years, and it was by no means my first rodeo. I'm not sure what can be done, but something has to be!
Same, I am in temporary accommodation (sit up of a long term relationship so found a sublet) and I have a deadline to finish everything. So this entire search has been extremely stressful to me. And I've been renting for 5+ yrs.
Trying to find a place right now too… it’s crazy. They ask you for your age, nationality, job and how long you’ve been working there as well. On top of having to provide right to rent, it feels like a huge invasion of privacy just to pay £1000pm for a room
Yes, I had to provide all my old addresses, my bank details, my bank statements, payslips and references. They're mental
After over two weeks, twice daily calls and a treat to notify the property ombudsman of their practices we have finally received the tennacy agreement. I have never had a worse rental experience in my life.
We were in a similar predicament last year and got burned. Prospective landlord basically had received a cash offer for a flat that is awaiting cladding replacement works, i.e. otherwise unsellable before the job is done. The eve of the agreed move-in date he informs the agents of this, his get-out-of-jail clause was that he hadn't countersigned the agreement. I guess that's another one to watch out for, if you're sensing hesitation from the landlord.
This scares me. I am trying to rent whilst still in my home country. I don't think I can deal with the hassle of going for numerous inspections, then having to wait months and also hope the landlord accepts my offer at the end. Fingers crossed I can seal the deal before I land in London later this month. Wish me luck 🤞
Good luck, it's very hard to rent a property you haven't seen, so much can go wrong so just make sure to have good break clauses and secure yourself as much as possible. So many places don't look like their pictures. But yes I've never had it this had. As much as I don't want another recession this property bubble seems to be heading there, everything is overpriced, people are crazy mortgaged up and in general its hard to keep a place long. Let's see what happens.
Sorry to hear this 😔
This actually makes me feel more comfortable accepting the recent rent increase I had, looks like a nightmare to move
I cannot believe how much of a hassle it is, with two professionals looking to rent, both with good careers, living here long etc. I guess at least they treat everyone the same but damn the UK government asked for less info when they gave me a work visa 😂
Was this with Foxtons? Lol. I agree with you it’s awful and all the laws are in favour of agencies/landlords.
KFH, but I feel like they're all bad! 😂
