do you have a day rate? multiply that number by 30, to get to your month rate. let the client know any day rate is x1.5 for weekend/holidays. or what you can do it try to define the scope/timeline as much as possible upfront in writing.. and do an overall project fee. 50% upfront non refundable. i sometimes try to include a kill fee to make sure they lock in with me.


For that length I prefer a flat weekly rate. That gets you a regular paycheck and removes the headache of billing, and protects you from being "sent home for the day" if there's a lull. What you might need give back to the agency is some value savings over the length of the contract, vs. simply multiplying your dayrate by 20 business days/month. Weekend work you should definitely charge 1.5x your hourly rate if it's anything more than responding to emails.


sounds like your W2 ☹️ @director1, do you think that will fly under W2? or will s/he have to go W9 to implement your “weekly” strategy?


@ AD yeah for anything over 4 weeks where they're asking for all of my time I push for W2 for 40 hrs/week. Otherwise you can get screwed by the expectation of always being on-call but only getting paid for billable hours. Think of being a regular FTE, you are asked to track your hours to help measure the account's/agency's profitability, but as an employee you get paid the same for both billable and non-billable time. That's the real cognitive dissonance about our industry. Outside of production, clients and agencies are buying & selling time, not material work. If you submit work at 12pm, can't sign off until it's approved, and that approval doesn't comes til 5pm, you should get paid for those five hours that you're left hanging. You would if you were sitting in an office on a weekday. Just because we are currently WFH doesnt mean our time should be bought & sold differently.
