What level and skillset are you at? US discussions about compensation makes me feel really low

like

Are you in audit, risk advisory or tech cloud or data? It depends on your skillset and target industry. I would say that base in industry is not that great in Toronto (vs US) and you might end up in similar band, may be 20-30% higher if you are underpaid right now. However, employee equity plans make up for the rest along with annual bonus. Tip: go to a smaller firm at bigger position if higher raise is what you are looking for. Try private equity or US based start ups.

How senior are you? If you exit to VP+ in industry, 300-500k sounds reasonable all-in.

Not many as far as I know. The Canadian market just isn’t that big compared to the US, we don’t have enough large companies to have that many VP+ positions, and when they do become available internal promote is more likely. You’ve unfortunately hit the point in your career where going for a director role feels like a step down (and from a $ perspective it is), but exiting at a higher level is unlikely.

Had an initial phone screening/interview with my dream firm. I’m not sure how it went. There were some good, some bad (or at least I think) parts. I was referred by a partner and this is my first time phone screening and was expecting a lot more questions. I was asked a couple “tell me about” questions and then went into salary expectations and open to relocating. How much weight do they put into the phone screen and is it normal to wonder how they went?

My law firm has the same business development expectations for attorneys based in big markets, such as New York or Los Angeles, as they do for attorneys in smaller markets where it is far more difficult to develop business, such as New Orleans and Louisville. That has always struck me as ludicrous. Why is it okay to base an attorney's starting salary on the market demands but ignore it for purposes of setting expectations for how much revenue that lawyer should generate? Am I missing something?

A&M folks - what is a realistic expectation for 1Y and 2Y at SA level in PEPI? Seeing offers at 130k vs B4 which is floating around 165k. Looking at TC at B4 with bonus being around 200k. I like the work & culture a lot more at A&M but base comp concerns me. I need advice, has anyone been in a similar sit? Met a guy on Bumble in March. He had gotten out of a 4 year relationship in December. We dated for 2 ish weeks, on date 3 we made out and touched (no sex but we both came). After the date he tells me he needs time to himself, his mind is all over the place. We’re May and he reached back out (to congratulate me for my sisters baby). Said he’s in a much better place mentally, wants to meet up. CONTd in comments
