Bases tend to be lower in tech overall

Right - that’s the general message I’ve been getting. I guess the situation can be a bit different when looking at public vs private in terms of any liquidity provided by your options.

I am curious as to what the breakout is for the TC. Is the difference made up by bonus or equity? Equity is imaginary money until the company goes public and even then it could still end up being less than you imagine it to be. The real question is do you think it will set you on the path that you want to be on?

Yeah I think you nailed the question on the head - over the next year or 2 or 3 the base might not matter too much but what does really matter is whether it’s the right overall career move. TC is like $130k base, $10-20k bonus, and like $50-60k equity over the next 4 years. It only becomes meaningful if they’re acquired or become public.

My guess is you can do better if you negotiate or get a different offer elsewhere

as a reference point even the max base generally of a L7 at Amazon is 160,100. Tech always puts a higher premium on "equity"

Agreed and I sort of expected that. I just think it’s a bit different when looking at Amazon or something that’s publicly traded where there’s liquidity so the equity means something right away versus not. Anyway, going back to the company to negotiate and will see what they say
