Figure out why you want to do this and then make sure your needs are going to be met. Fed is a place where passion, creativity and your soul die.

It can be good if you’re really good at what you do. Specifically cyber/security or engineering. It depends on the military contracts.

They can be lucrative but not like it was 2005-2010. But should still be some good contracts out there.

And the really high paying ones are overseas

Yeah that’s my background c1. A1 are you referring to independent consultant type contracting positions?

Independent is hard to find in defense, I was more referring to the huge DoD contracts awarded to Lockheed/BAE/Northrop Grumman/Boeing. Each of them tends to pay well for rare skills, especially around security. I see that being a high growth industry in the next few years

I wouldn't count on it being very high growth. GOP currently ignoring their own platform with the unrequested massive defense budget increase and equally crazy tax "reform" that adds $1.5T to debt, so that might work out for defense contractors, but my guess is tea party isn't done raining on that parade. FYI though you can actually make a ton working for the tiny companies (many just shell companies I think) who label themselves as woman-, minority-, or veteran-owned. Govt contracting stupidly still gives preference to those with seemingly very little oversight into whether they are real companies.

Hi, would love some advice! I’ve been at my company ~1 yr and feeling like I need a change due to various reasons. Not sure if I can apply elsewhere w/ a little less than 1 yr under my belt, and I don’t have many connections in my area. Right now, I play a BSA role on my team, and I’m hoping to pursue product/UX design. I’m also doing a UX bootcamp in the spring & working on a udemy course outside of work for UX/UI. What’s a good stepping stone role (remote preferred)?
