I had hope in my heart that I would return home safely. I am home now and I am now a proud veteran, but deployment was truly a dark time. It's something we have to do for our country, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't something I just wanted to be over.
Wow, that's a great question, I used to go to church regularly and pray a lot, but with God, I never felt alone.
I feel that the best moment of my career was when I started patrolling with a partner, being alone on the streets became more and more difficult, but when we started patrolling with a partner everything changed. Those days of loneliness were strong for me.
It is true, in the days of deployment alone I felt very vulnerable and even cowardly in many cases, but I learned little by little how the life of a police officer should be.
It was shocking to me for a long time to patrol alone, it was what I hated most about my job at the time. Now that I have a partner who won't stop talking I feel like I'd rather be alone hahaha!! No, but to be honest, it's not easy being deployed alone.
I've been deployed four times and have found the loneliness doesn't go away, but it does become easier to get through. Being away from family for so long is incredibly isolating but remember that you're surrounded by people sharing the same experience. Helping each other stay focused and entertained makes all the difference.
