Let’s pretend we’re holding companies. I’ll start: No, we can’t hire an extra writer even though you’re clocking 70+ hours a week. BTW, our contract with your client caps billable hours per employee because they know we don’t pay overtime. Here’s a non-billable code you should start using for the rest of the year.
How is everyone organizing Jira? A project for each product or offering within a product or just a single backlog. The startup I work at have one backlog set up for the product but I find things get lost. The engineering team then have their own Jira projects where items from the product backlog get moved into it, refined, broken down into smaller tickets, and then scheduled into sprints. I can’t help but think this is hard to manage.
I have 10+ years of experience Agency side, but looking to move Client side with remote work. I've applied for a number of roles either directly on Client sites or via LinkedIn, but haven't even received anything other than a straight rejection at the first stage. Wondering if anyone has experienced similar and overcome it/any tips. My resume has a number of large Agencies and global clients on it, with (IMO at least) some nice success stories, but wondering if I'm missing something obvious.
Hi 🐠 I have been on bench for 1 week now and have been trying to do my best to get a project. My utility is dropping fast, But I feel I am being ingonored in my practice and also being asked to join project which doesn’t align my skillset. I have been in company for over a year now. Is this normal? FYI. I come from Industry so trying to understand consultaning world
My Brother in Law is looking at contracting as a 10-99 consultant for a Healthcare IT manager / sr manager position for a client on a long term contract with the VA, managing a few dev teams. Any insight into what he should ask as his hourly rate?
I have an 84 year old client with about 100K in GIC's expiring in 2 weeks. I want to be cautious and put aside some cash for medical bills should he fall sick. What do you guys do with clients 80+?
Could someone from Accenture help me clarify what it means to be within AFS Applied Intelligence? Like I’m being hired into that group but is that a select group internally or will I be on a project? If I’m on a project what’s the point of being in the AI group?
Love it when the leadership realizes that the presentation was supposed to be unbranded 9 months into the project and 30 status reports later😳🔫
Which one of you Accenture folk are on this project? With a bill rate like that it's gotta be ACN India. Spill the beans or I'll tag you in my group chat. "Facebook pays contractors $16.50 per hour, hired by consulting firm Accenture, to read your ‘encrypted’ WhatsApp messages, shares info with prosecutors" https://www.rt.com/news/534257-facebook-whatsapp-moderators-read-messages/
Any tips for building a client base from scratch? I’m a 4th year associate at a firm of 12 attorneys. I practice in business, compliance, and real estate (primarily on partners’ files) and don’t litigate. Most of the partners’ clients are wealthy friends or friends of friends (not my circle). Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I equate a book to autonomy and career choice and pressure is on.
I rolled off a project 3 months ago. They keep reaching out and asking me to help onboard new teammates to give them historical knowledge (it’s a long-term project). Do I have to keep doing this? Or does it get to a point where I can say I don’t have the time and there must be someone more recent who can help?
What items do I bill my time for with a new client? Starting my first real freelance gig and know I can bill my time for all the client onboarding items and background research/materials review to get me up to speed on things, but can I also bill for all the HR paperwork and email set up and things like that?

Deloitte’s Diversity & Inclusion group hosted Nicole Hannah-Jones today and it was a goddamn breath of fresh air to hear her speak candidly. Even called the firm out in some places. If you haven’t seen her NYT 1619 project, educate yourselves https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/08/14/magazine/1619-america-slavery.html
QUESTION -When you have a great passion project / bottom drawer idea that you keep bringing out and trying to bring back to life - ie you’ve had it in a couple of agencies - who owns it? It wasn’t for a brief, and it was worked on above and beyond the general hours of work. And it’s never been bought.
I’ve been working for my client for about a year and love my projects and client team and have had strong performance-however my team running the PMO is disorganized, burnt out, and teetering on the verge of a major mishap if the trend continues. I’m looking elsewhere but have a strong relationship with our client leadership contacts…..how would I float the idea of them taking me client-side?
Since George Floyd's murder and the sudden Corporate America "wokeness," I (black guy) have been routinely contacted by unacquainted Partners who explicitly state something to the effect "Client X wants diversity, so we'd like you on this deal..." It really comes across as tone deaf and completely patronizing. I appreciate the efforts to diversity (albeit forced), but Partners really need to learn how to not be so supercilious in the approach. You don't have to overtly state that I'm the quota.
Recommendations on best bars/clubs/restaurants/day time activities in Chicago? Trying to take advantage of finally having a good client city
Transitioned from my first job (in-house at large tech company) to a boutique firm where "quality" is king. Problem is, every partner/client has their own idea of what "quality" is. Feeling like I'm starting over brand new, and the stress is really getting to me. Everyone at my old job told me I was at the top quality-wise, but the partners at the firm all tell me it's going to be 2 years before I'm really confident/comfortable. I'm a 6th year. Is this normal? Having bad imposter syndrome.
partners pressuring me into working a Saturday unnecessarily to meet fictitious client demands are why I'm leaving. I'm either going solo or finding an industry job.
Show of hands; who has been laid off because your agency lost a big client? Also, when you interviewed for your next job did you feel comfortable saying that? And do other agencies understand?
Something’s been weighing on my mind. I messed up in a steering committee & tripped infront of the Sr. Client Stakeholders. I made a few other mistakes and was rolled off by my manager (SM) b/c I sucked and it was a higher burn engagement he needed a stronger BA. Now I find out he might’ve been laid off and I can’t help but to think it was my fault. We never really talked after this engagement but I feel like it’s my clumsiness that him fired and it makes me feel guilty and give a me anxiety.
Returned from sick leave and found out from other people at the office I totally messed up on a project that I worked on prior to sick leave. Now that my reputation has been ruined and facing an upcoming negative performance review. No one at the office stood up for me despite of positive work done prior to COVID or wants to hear what I have to say. I m bothered by this gaslighting practice both professionally and personally. I felt I was designated as the scape goat. Continued.

AT Kearney case interview tips? I may have an interview coming up and I really want to be in top form for the cases. It's been a while! Any AT Kearney tips or advice would be appreciated.
Trying to avoid paying an accountant, can I actually write off home office space/mileage if I was just permalancing for 3 months last year? Shouldn’t the 7 months of W2 take care of this 1099 shit?
Has anyone ever had trouble getting the company you are leaving, to provide a written list of ‘off limit’ companies you can consult for?
Got an invite from Amex to upgrade my gold to a platinum card. The benefits seem solid but I already have CSR. Thoughts?
What the most outrageous billable hours you can confirm at your firm? Just learned from a partner that the highest billers at my firm came in at 3600, 3500 and 3200. Seems fishy to me.
Does Big 4 hires H1-B transfers for the positions that they originally don’t hire someone for who would go through H1-B lottery?
I got laid off and 3 weeks later a SC from HR sends me an email about an opening at the firm. Should I apply???
Have been pinged for a possible role as Director of Operations at a promising looking startup with a 50%% pay increase & equity. It looks like an amazing opportunity.. but my husband and I have just started trying for our first kid, and I'm not sure about leaving the stability and benefits of Big 4, even though I feel like I have run out of career growth here. Has anyone changed jobs at a similar point, or worked at a startup as a new mom, that might be able to share perspective or opinions?
