Has anyone ever tried negotiating a pro-rated bonus prior to leaving for a federal clerkship (i.e., where you leave a month or two before the end of the billable year)? I’m figuring it’s a no-go and, if anything, the firm would prefer to negotiate that into the package upon return from the clerkship (along with any clerkship bonus, etc), but wondering if it would be worth bringing up before I leave.
