Supportive management and solid teams are priceless — you should be looking for that in your interviews. Red flag especially if you don’t get to talk to anyone from account team. That being said; there’s always the chance of getting an offer and then getting a match.

I think I’m feeling a little defeated about the match conversation because I was shot down when trying to negotiate for my raise last year. Brought a ton of comparative salary info and it didn’t make a difference. Also in a weird spot because it’s the beginning of the year which means lay-off season so I feel like they’re going to look at me like I’m crazy for even suggesting.

I would leave and take the money as well the opportunity to work at another agency and different brands and meet new people. You have the solid team/supportive management at this moment but in this business things change in a flash.

This is very true!

Make the jump. Years ago I feel like I made the mistake of not getting out of my comfort zone at a time when I had a good offer on the table. I chose to stay with what I thought was a supportive place. A few months later the people I stayed to work with left. You’ll learn a lot changing agencies and make some better cheddar at the same time. If you’re current situation was that supportive you’d have gotten the raise it sounds like you deserve.

How supportive, really, is your management if they are drastically under paying you and not listening when you come forward...

I’m in a similar situation. I could certainly earn a more elsewhere, but my team is small which allows me to be exposed to more facets of marketing than I would at a larger organization. So I’m staying and gaining as much hands-on experience as I can. I say that to say, if where you are allows you to expand your capabilities and provides exciting opportunities for growth, I’d stay and get all you can out of it. Obviously, if you can’t pay your bills and adequately support yourself then leave. But if you can manage your responsibilities with the lower pay for now, I’d stay, get that experience, and then use that to leverage an even higher paying position with another company later.

I personally just left a solid team and supportive management system for a new company that offered significantly more salary, benefits, and career growth opportunity at the beginning of the year. It honestly hasn’t been an easy transition the past two months, and I sometimes think about what it would be like had I stayed, but ultimately I am confident I made the best decision for myself long term and overtime will be able to build that same strong team and supportive management system at my new company!

If the new position for more $ feels right then do it.

Extremely helpful. Thanks for all the words of wisdom.

MOVE! You’ll find new great support systems. Make the money while you can.
