I should add that I am a female and the colleague is a male
Don’t see how that matters in this situation
Get a job offer and threaten to leave. Sounds like that is what your colleague did. They are not going to give you money because you ask nicely
Pro
First and foremost, don’t take any of this personally. Just because you are paid less than your colleague isn’t a reflection of effort, skill, or work product. Not here at least.
You need to go out and interview and get a competing offer. That’s what your colleague did. That’s what you need to do. It’s really simple. They won’t up you otherwise. You just need to play the game.
Thanks I really feel a bit better from reading this. Otherwise deloitte really drives me crazy. And I don’t understand why I feel I am so dumb when Deloitte pays me less.
Would also add that if you get a competing offer you should be ready to take it.
Gender is irrelevant…it’s the tangible job offer that matters. Unfortunate, but that is very standard
3 months is basically nothing. Like others said, it's the job offer in hand which would matter.

Just to add to this a 10k increase in 3 months would just be $2500 in lost wages. Take about 30% off for taxes and it’s $1750 or about $290 if you get paid biweekly.
Maybe go and get yourself an outside offer then. Lol not sure why you are using gender instead of what you can offer etc
I believe TA1 is replying to the comment you added…
If you’re in industry, it’s generally challenging to get an off-cycle raise approved. Your manager may be looking to leverage the annual process. Asking for an amount greater may be difficult to support without an offer in hand. If compensation is critical, I would look externally for another role.
If you are in industry, you CPA may not be valued that much. It depends on the company

If I’m understanding this correctly, you’re upset that you’re not getting pretax 2.5k quick enough?
Look for a new job and maybe you can leverage your raise faster.
I’m a staff 2 and incoming staffs are making more than me. I have to wait 3 months before raises. It’s all about market and timing honestly. 10k isn’t much in grand scheme of things .
This exact same thing happened to me. I am a higher performer and trained the person who makes more than me. I brought it up to my partner and got the whole it’ll even out over the course of your career, it’ll adjust when you get adjusted for market, etc. but it doesn’t feel good in the moment. Money isn’t everything but it’s the main way firms show they appreciate you. I will say almost everyone I told told me to get a counteroffer as well but I didn’t have that in me at the time. And now I might as well wait until sept
