Looking for advice - I am an internal designer at a respected agency. I work on the agencies socials, do presentation design, and help any other internal needs (logos, events, web, etc). I’m really struggling with how to present myself + tailor my portfolio as I look for the next gig as I lack any real client work. Does anyone have any advice on how to market my experience? Thank you!!

Give yourself a brief and do a few fake projects for your dream client. You’ll end up with a portfolio that represents your style and you’ll attract clients or CDs that have similar tastes.

Related to this, if you work internally you may have access to the business development team? Find an RFP with an actual problem that a company came to the agency to pitch. You can produce some client work from that. Your work will still be speculative but at least the problem you’ll be addressing is real

Nowadays, most of the service based companies are toughening their interviews and even after we clear the company level interview, we are being challenged with both the internal project interviews and client interviews.
This is being a red tape against getting a fair work opportunity.
Why are the orgs moving towards such hard selection process nowadays ?
Why aren't they lenient towards providing an work environment, that offers the opportunity for gradual progression of the learning curve ?

Hello, I have a question that needs your inputs how to handle. I am working with a post-MBA Associate on a project and this person seems to do extra work beyond what the team is asking the rest of us to do. I think during our conversations with the leadership, there were a couple of points that were brought up by the MD but that was not a concrete directive that we need to do because if it is, I would know about it from the chain email since I am staffed to the project.

Hi everyone,

I am currently looking to transition into the recruiting/TA field. I am currently working to get my Recruiting certification. I have a background in Sales, Management, Contract Renewals and Project Coordination.

Can anyone explain the potential pay structure. Ex: If I'm at about $70k annually base (hourly) with a bonus plan, how likely am I to get that at entry level? I am seeing a lot of lower base pay offers with commission bonuses. How does commission work for recruiters/TAs?

Any stories of what happened AFTER you had to back out of some work because you were getting overwhelmed with what’s on your plate? I had to tell a partner I couldn’t help him with a training after initially agreeing because I was worn thin between two different deals. I’m fairly new to the firm so am a little concerned this is going to affect me reputationally, but figured it was better than blowing a client-related deadline. Fwiw he was nice about it and his training I think went fine.

I remember when I first started working on my thesis project. My adviser asked me to get some funding for it, but he didn't give me any advice about how to do that. He just told me that if I wanted money for my project, I'd have to go through some kind of committee process and submit an application for funding from them. Sure enough, after weeks of writing applications and waiting around for responses from the committee members (who were always too busy), I eventually got approved for funding!

Hello everyone!
I’m seeking advise from fishers. My brother in law is going to university next year. He was engineering (which is one of the worse decisions someone can do from my experience LOOL). I told him if anything he should do managment engineering which he got accepted to. He also got accepted to Mcmaster- information management systems. Which in my opinion you get a bit of everything! And this degree is picking up a lot of traction’s across tech. More thoughts in the comments
