Looking for advice.

I have an interview scheduled for tomorrow. I’ve applied to about 50 places and if I had to rank them, this is probably number 50.

I’m debating on not going as to not waste their time since I will most likely decline if it is offered to me. What would you do?

I think you should go and use it as a “practice” interview. They’re bound to ask some questions that will be asked by other, more desirable districts… it’s good practice. Plus, you’ll be more relaxed knowing you’d say no if the offered the position.

I shared your question with my in house HR guru (my husband). He sees the value in the interview practice. Even more, he says to put together a list of questions to ask them. The questions should be about issues important to you in an ideal job/situation. Then after the interview, ask them for input regarding your answers. Afterwards, if you have offers from elsewhere, you can call/email and say that after further consideration, you’d like to withdraw your application.

Same happened to me several years back. I drove up to the school, didn’t feel safe getting out of my car during the middle of the afternoon. I ended up calling the school explaining my fears and thanking them for the opportunity to interview. This still kept me in good graces with the district and didn’t red flag my file in anyway.

Definitely go for public schools first, there will be other charter schools if they don't work out!

If you don’t want to go tell then ASAP.

like

Ohio, you don't need an excuse. Just call and tell them that you would be unable to take the job at this time and therefore would like to withdraw your application. You don't really need a reason beyond that. Then politely thank them for their time and consideration.

It's quite reasonable to decide not to waste their time. But, please, as soon as is practical, call up and cancel and politely thank them for their time and consideration. Don't just fail to show. The school administration world is a fairly small one and they do talk amongst themselves quite a bit. You want to stay in everyone's good graces.

Good luck and I hope you find the perfect place.

Oh yes I’ll most definitely let them know.

Use it as a practice. When your dream job comes along you will be polished.

like

Go and think of it as practice. If offered the position, ask for a few days to decide.

It might be good to get some interview practice in even if you know you’ll probably decline the job!

Definitely still go . If they offer it’s always an offer to leverage somewhere else .

I had an interview at my old high school I graduated from. After about 25 years out of HS , I decided to drive by there a few days before the interview. While there, I felt a little anxious (HS was not a good experience for me there over all and it was a rough school twenty five years ago, I can only imagine what it's like now) I had a feeling of, "What am I doing here again?" So I called them first thing in the morning and withdrew my application. It paid about 15k more than where I am now, but It felt completely wrong. hard pass.

like

Just cancel. Don’t waste people’s time.

I’m currently interviewing (2nd year teacher) and take any offer for an interview for practice!! The more I do it, the better I get. So I honestly think it’s a good idea to go. Who knows the school may surprise you

It’s always good experience to go and hear what they ask and what you can use for the places you really want - have you heard from anywhere else?

This is a gift. Just go for the experience/interview practice. If you really feel you don’t want the job, don’t take it, but don’t just not show up for the interview. That may eliminate you for contention for other jobs because I’m sure Admins do “talk” about their hiring experiences.

Go for where you see yourself staying years.

Why 50 places?

Go for practice. Practice in interviews is never a waste of time.

I would probably cancel. It sounds like you already know you don't want to job so I wouldn't waste their time.

Background story - I interviewed with a company that I really want to work for for a role that I was a perfect fit for. I went through 5 rounds of interviews then was told that they ended up going with an internal referral however the entire team loved me so much and they're looking for other roles for me. I thanked them for their time and didn't really take their word but 2 weeks later I get contacted again for another opportunity on a different team. (Cont'd in comment)

Thread: I’ve been talking to this company for months and the recruiter has been in and out with communication. A few weeks ago, he reached out, apologized for the delay and explained they needed to figure out role priorities but that they’re moving forward, I’m a top candidate, & they wanted to wrap up interviews and extend an offer the following week. He never reached out to set up interviews and hasn’t replied to any of my calls or emails.

Hey fishes, would be joining PwC AC DDVIT team in some time. I have some questions:

1. Is the PwC AC DDVIT team same as Strategy& or these two operate differently?
2. How is the overall worklife balance for PwC DDVIT team?
3. What are some some good benefits in PwC AC (monetary/non-monetary)
4. How much time does an associate 2 take to get promoted to senior associate?
5. Are there on-site traveling opportunities? And is it only to US or European countries as well?

Thanks!

EY US is giving early effective promotions this year in August 2022 instead of October. Is this something we can expect in GDS as well to keep it consistent?
