Yes, it could hurt it. It takes a lot of work and perseverance to get back to the good stuff. So, it’s an option. But, you will have setbacks. That said, every agency has opportunities. Some just require you to hunt for them more than others. So, make sure you’re aware where those are when you start—whether that’s client who’s looking for breakthrough work or an ECD who’s talented, pushing for it, and knows how to sell it. Having made some questionable career moves in my life, I’d say hold out until you find a job that pays you more AND has the work that you want to do. Every place you go to should be a stepping stone to get somewhere better. When you take a step back, it’s hard to regain that momentum.

Pay that debt off.

Agree with ACD 1. Student loan debt sucks, but since you're only in year two of your career, the reality is that you'll have that debt for a while. Shop around for a low interest rate and a low monthly payment (if you haven't already) and automate that payment. Then forget about it until you get the better-paying job that you actually want and you're in a financial position to increase your payments. It's "good debt" like a mortgage and a tax deduction.

I got a not good observation from my principal last May teaching on Zoom. I was beside myself at what he said about my teaching and thought it would pass.
