Looking for advice on a career path in HR/Talent Acquisition. I have 7 yoe in HR (generalist/consultant), but then took a long break/gap, so starting over as a coordinator this year. I’m interested in analytics but my company doesn’t have an immediate need for a dedicated role in analytics yet. I want to move into a higher paying role but not sure where to go from here, especially in a growing start-up environment.

What are the higher-paying roles in your company, and are you qualified for them or can you get qualified? Short of that I'd start looking at HR job postings in your area (and/or remote ones) and start getting a feel for work that looks like you'd enjoy in the pay bracket you desire.

Imagine you're looking for a remote job at a large company with a sophisticated marketing function, strong manager, and room for growth. Making good traction, but then you're contacted by a company in a niche that FASCINATES you...like you read books about this subject for fun, you'd probably love this job. It's remote, the salary is good, the manager is nice, but you'd be the most senior marketing person; the company is about 200 people. What would you do?

I work in operations and the pending layoffs here and in tech has me nervous to jump ship. I’ve been here 3 years, and am a top performer. I’m fairly young, so my career experience is here. I got promoted twice within 2 years and love it here! Work life balance is amazing, and my managers have all been very supportive. The compensation is decent but I hear jumping will substantially increase your salary long term.

MSFT, Google, or Apple would be my top choices. Any advice for me?

How much would you consider investing on a company that’s ‘high risk’ in the sense that it is a social-media? The goal is to sell in 3-5 years. This has been created in an established market, has increasing site visits by the day and hour… the vision and market need is clear. The hustle of the team is undeniable.

Additional Posts in Human Resources

Curious, is it common practice to advise managers *not* to remain in correspondence with a recently terminated employee? An employee was just fired *without* cause (headcount reduction) and has been trying to contact his former manager to stay in touch, etc. The manager has not responded to the employee yet.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

After building a broad background in HR, I’m looking for my next role to focus in on people/workforce analytics and data visualization.
I’ve learned a decent amount about it on my own, but I’d love to get more formal education or training for analytics and data visualization software.
Any recommendations for training that really dives into the technical side and best practices? Most of what I’ve found has been more like a broad overview of what people analytics is, not in-depth training.

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Holiday Pay: We have 8 paid holidays, total of 64 hours, where everyone receives 8 hours of holiday pay regardless of what their schedule is. For example, someone working 10 or 12 hours shifts will receive 8 hours of holiday pay. To make up for the hours that they don't receive, they use PTO. What does your company do? Do you pay based off someone's schedule or is it the same across the board for everyone regardless of what they work?
